Posted this in the feeding section but thought I would try my luck here instead :-)
Hi all
Just wondering how/when you changed from bottles to sippy cups/cups?
My DD is 12months and will happily drink water from a sippy cup/normal cup and I was thinnking of getting rid of the daytime bottles in favour of sippy cups. She has 2x 150ml bottles of formula each day (morning tea and afternoon tea before naps) and will sometimes drink all of it and sometimes not much.
We tried a sippy cup yesterday at afternoon nap time and she happily had a few sips and then put it down. When she got grizzly and ready for a nap I offered it again and she wouldn't take it. ended up giving her 100ml bottle, which she loved and then went to bed happily.
Just wondering what to expect and how to go about changing her over to cups.
Many thnaks :-)

I think, like with anything, you just have to keep offering and eventually they'll get it.
We've never used bottles, just went straight to sippy cup and cup with a straw. The straw cup means that DS is able to get more liquid faster so maybe you could try that... Sometimes the sippy cup is so slow that he loses interest.

I am in the process of weaning my 6 month old DS from breast to sippy cup with expressed milk for his daytime feeds when I am away working.
I was given lots of helpful advice through this forum. One of the key messages it to keep at it! Patience and persistance is the key. We have been giving it to him once or twice a day for the last couple of weeks. We try it when he is rested and relaxed. I don't wait until he is hungry to give it to him as he gets frustrated and doesn't want a bar of it!
Another idea could be to try another type of cup as perhaps your DD associates her sippy cup with water only? I was told by my plunket nurse not to give my DS water in the same sippy cup he has my milk from and that I should just give him water from a normal cup.

thanks ladies :-)
I guess it is just a matter of keep trying. I think initially I was worried that she wasn't drinking half as much formula as she usually does, but then I guess at this age it doesn't really matter as she drinks plenty of water and eats loads of solids.
I will just keep trying :-)
