Okay so I posted a while back about tonsils etc and never got a reply, thats cool, but what I want to know is has anyone been to the kid ward at chch hospital recently? When I was there when Thomas was a baby it was old, horrible and dirty. Has it changed? We think he's going to need his tonsils out and we cant afford to go private, so it will be off to the public system. Do you get a bed to sleep in yet or is it those nasty fold out chair things still?

we spent several weeks there last year and a week about 9 months ago. Some rooms (ones close to the  nurses desk) still only have the fold out chairs and are hideous. Even some of the bigger rooms still only have the fold out chairs, but the there are rooms with proper beds for the adults or a kids bed at least for the adults. It was okish as far as cleaniliness goes, had had a recent coat of paint. Was nothing flash but did the trick. The medical staff were all fantastic and I guess that is the most important thing.

I asked for a room with a bed rather than a couch and they were as accommodating as they could be.

I was quite harsh last time with them - Thomas was in a cot and they gave me a fold out chair. I had to be there 24 hours a day as he was 3 months old (not BF - I would have got a bed if he was grrrr) I didnt get food or anything and ate toast (they supplied bread) as we couldnt afford to go back at forth from where we live. Stupid. I guess I'm just pretty anti because of the last experience.

Yes well that part hasn't changed. If you are not breast feeding then yes as you mentioned all still applied. they still have bread and coffee etc but it was still a happy enough experience (for a hospital visit!)
