haha, so we have a real territorial magpie which has moved into our garden, he has even started to attack our chickens :( Im a bit worried he may start dive-bombing the kids, (or me!)
he has even taken shots at the cat and dog...
how can i get rid of him...so far my only idea is to make a sling shot and fire stuff at it when it sits on the fence post...not to hurt it, but so that everytime it settled down it would get a fright and take off..

Have you called the council to see if they can do anything? If it was me and we lived rural then I would just get one of my family to shoot it, they are a pest and are not protected.

They like shiny stuff. Have you got s back yard full of shiny things?
Otherwise try tying plastic bags top the fence where it sits. They don't like the rustling

i agree, shoot it.
On a more serious note ring your council, they can provide traps and will relocate the bird too

Yeah I was attacked by one when watching DH play golf a while ago. It left nasty big claw marks across my face and luckily I had sunnies on as the beak mark was right on the corner of my eye. Someone went out with a gun straight after it happened and got rid of it. We have them all around DD's school at the moment and they are scaring the crap outta me!!

Nasty birds aren't they! At one of the schools I visited in Aussie all the kids had made themselves hats out of ice-cream containers for when the damn things attacked.

My Aussie visitors are suggesting poisoned bread (lol, they're thinking Aussie - they wouldn't want to get caught!) or to shoot them...

Shoot it!!! lol My DFIL sits on his deck and shoots them.
There is one across the road that keeps attacking people running through ruakura, it dives bombs them.

I'd be worried about the kiddies too they are horrid, (the birds not the kids) get the rspca or something in.

When I lived in Aus we were taught to hand cd's in the garden or attach sheets of tin toil to the house to reflect the light as this scared them off. Worked quite well. Also they hardly swoop if you look at them, hence the whole scarecrow with the detailed face history. They'll only swoop for a few weeks as there will be a nest around and it's really only a warning. Some friends in Aus fed the magpies in their yard and haven't been swooped on since

When I was 12, I was dive bombed by one in the park near where we live and had a massive chunk of hair ripped out.

Shoot it I say, or just ring the council and tell them it's attacking everyone. They'll shoot it for you.
