Hi there
I was on the other "waiting to TTC" but it was waaaay too long and felt like I was getting ignored by everyone on there. So have started a new topic. For those wanting to have a baby, still waiting to TTC but waiting until next year in 2012
Im all a bit new to this and although my DP and I are not looking at trying until early next year I just wanted to come on here and i guess get use to everything and start getting some advice from people out there who already have children and the moment and/or are currenly TTC.
Also just wondering if there is anyone else out there that is in a similar situation to me. You've been with your DP for a couple of years and the topic of children has come up but you need to get a few things sorted out before you start TTC.
Well thats me.
My partner and I have been together for over two years now and we've been talking about having kids. He'd make a awesome Dad as he works with kids on a daily basis.
But before we start to plan to have kids there are a couple of things that we need to get sorted out first. Like getting the credit cards down for one. Now I know you can never have enough money when you have kids but surely but getting the credit cards down and clear its a start and a huge help
We have set our sights on about Feb/March next so that way when/if we do go on Materinty leave I would have been in my job for about 3 years. Plus it will also give me a chance to add up some of the annual leave I get through work and use that before my maternity leave kicks in. Giving me an extra month of pay whcih will help us out so much in the end.
Wouild love to know if anyone else is in the same situtation or similar situation as me

Good luck with your journey Terri - DH & I were EXACTLY the same - we'd been together for just over 3.5years when we fell preggo...
Though we'd talked and talked about kids and had been extending when we'd start TTC by 6mths here, 6mths there as we wanted to pay stuff off, go on this holiday, oh haven't been at work long enough..... till Oct last year I put my foot down, booked a Dr app that was a few weeks out to get the IUD taken out.... SCAREY!!
Took us a bit to get our heads round the whole 'we're not preventing this anymore' but after a few months we were into the swing of things, still worked through our plans - and to be honest have made the most inroads into paying stuff off since I've been pregnant.
I haven't actively saved my annual leave (we had a 3week holiday in Feb to visit family in Canada & get married, Concieved the first weekend we were home!) I've managed to accumulate enough for 4weeks of ANN before the maternity leave kicks in. THis also means I'll get a pay from work in Nov - something I hadn't worked into our budgets so will give us a nice saving.
Anyways a nice mini book about me - all the best for your journey!

Hi Michelle
Yeah people always say that you can never really be ready or have enough money when you have a baby. But hey at least I can try to get there and start my way in terms of being a little bit better financially stable
Thank you for sharing your story with me :) I really appriciate it.
While we are getting a lot of 'practise' in. We still wont be actively TTC until next year. So Im still on the Pill and while I know its not always 100% we are still being 'safe' as we can until next year. I will probably start looking at booking a doctors appointment to see what I need to do in the lead up to all this. I know its best that I start to take Folic Acid about 3 months before we start trying

Do you plan on coming off the pill before you want to TTC to give it a chance to get out of your system or are you ok with a possible delay in conceiving?
I haven't been in your situation, I had DS1 unexpectedly then TTC for DS2 was planned like a month AFTER we got our BFP lol so he was an early planned babe I guess but I love reading other peoples plans!
You should check out http://www.daveramsey.com - Dave Ramsey if you want to get ahead financially. Actually Jazzy broke his steps down brilliantly in a thread over in general but I can't remember what its called. Anyway GL!!!!

I would definitely give yourself a few months off contraception before ttc - we didn't and my cycles were so messy it was two months before i realised we had conceived first go, and thus I didn't realise my pains were from an ectopic pregnancy, and the doctors didn't want to scan me as my hcg was low and they thought I was 4 weeks.
It would have been so much easier medically if I had been off contraception for longer.

Hey! I had been looking for another thread to join, (it's a bit scary venturing out of my due thread) and agree that the TTC one is huge!
Thought I would introduce myself in here.
I'm Rach, my DF & I have a darling 10 month old daughter and we are hoping to start TTC #2 early 2012.
I kinda wanted to try before then, but decided to be sensible and pay off some bills first, and I would like to enjoy my DD's first birthday and christmas first too.
I am also starting charting, I never have before, and just wanted to get an idea of my cycles. Luckily they are pretty regular (I can almost know to the day when my period is due) but it will be interesting to see how easily we get pregnant second time around.

I can't really help unfortunately. My AF came back as soon as I dropped one BF, so I got totally ripped off! lol
Have been getting them monthly since she was about 3 months old.
It may just be taking your body a few months to get back into its routine?

Just started taking Folic Acid today :) here's hoping that by the time we actually start actively TTC it will be all good :)
I've also been told to heck my Iron count...and also should make sure that my DP should be starting to look after himself a bit more too...but like how?

eat well, dont drink too much, he can take zinc for the "boys" health...etc
started my FA today too lol SNAP
you should also check your rubella status BDTM14 as it can be dangerous for bub if your not and you get it while preg as they cant vax if your preg

I had the rubella shot when I was about 11 or 12 I think it was. Cant remember I know it was when I was back in intermediate...but thats like 20 years ago now. So might talk to the doc and see what she says. But I think it lasts for life doesnt it?
Yeah might have to sneak the Zinc etc for my DP as when he was a teenager he had cancer and went through Chemo etc and well he's not really a fan of dating any medical of anything...but he might have to
Woo Hoo SNAP back :)

Yeah I think when I do come off the pill and we start actively trying Im not going to stress out if we dont get preggers right away. I know it takes a while. and Im happy to wait. Cant rush these things that for sure.
Ideally I'd love to get preggers around March/April at the latest so then I can start my Mat leave around Dec/Jan.
I've kinda also decided to start racking up Annual Leave so I can use as much of it as I can before I start the Mat Leave.

Hmm, I wonder if I should be taking FA. I used Elevit last time around, but boy is that stuff expensive! Was ok when on two incomes, but that would definitely hurt the bank while I am not working.
FA is really the main thing to take isn't it?
I might need to pay my GP a visit.
So a friend of mine has just found out she is preggers (she is in the TTC boards too). Wow, so excited for her, almost made me wish we were trying now. I need to be realistic though, we aren't quite ready yet. I had a c-section first time around, so want to give my body enough time to heal, plus if I can wait just a little longer we may get away with not needing to buy another cot, and moving DD1 to a big bed.
Has anyone been watching that programme "one born every minute" on vibe?

Oh I can totally join this now.
I'm coming off birth control in mid Jan, just going to see what happens.
Last time I came off the pill I got pregnant straight away, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much that that will happen again.
And I am watching one born every minute. Its made me feel quite good about my birth experience. The pain wasn't fun at the time, but I still managed to give birth naturally and both me and DS came out without any major probs. The people on that show seem to have a much harder time than I did!

SethsMama, you are lucky you had such a good birth experience.
Mine was TERRIBLE, so alot of what happens on that programme really hits home! I have cried in every episode so far!

The lady with the lunch last week was bugging me. I get that she was prob just frustrated though.
I had a little drama at my birth (2 1/2 hours of pushing and a quick cut to get baby out quickly before he lost his breath) Which was scary at the time, but I think mostly scary because it was so not what I expected.
Fingers crossed we both have better birth experiences eh!

Absolutely!
Odds are my second time around will be an elective c-section. I will have to discuss with a MW, but I had such a tough time last time that ended in an emergency c-section that I would probably opt for that.
After labouring for 72+ hours, then pushing for 2.5 hours with no result I really don't want to go through that again!
Good thing the memory seems to "numb" slightly, else most of us would probably never do it again! lol
haha, that lady was super annoying.. she still hasn't had the baby either!

My cousin had an elective for her second and she said the experience was amazing. After a real traumatic first birth, going into her second KNOWING what the plan was, made the whole experience much easier on her.
I think also knowing the recovery and what it will be like would make new baby time a bit better too ;)

im still around im still tossing up on elective or VBAC too...i had a horrendous emergency CS experience after 19hours of labour that could have ended losing us both so im put off CS but then scared of a VBAC aswell coz my labour was sooooo intense and painful thanks to her position and my cervix swelling etc

Just remember electives are alot more structured & calmer.
Everyone I know who has had an elective has had a pleasant experience. (Well, as pleasant as major surgery can be! )
I do worry a bit though, I have been told it can be hard to get a midwife to take your case when you intend to have an elective. Has anyone else heard/had this problem?
Apparently they don't get as much $$ for your care as they do with a v birth but I wouldn't have thought they would be allowed to turn people away for that reason?
My MW was useless.. she left and when home when I was finally ready to push! Couldn't believe it!

Hi All,
Been married for a bit over a year and 'seeing what happens' for about 4 months for our #1. We talked in circles for most of this year trying to decide when to start trying - or to stop 'trying not to' - came off the pill in May but used other contraception for a few months to make sure things were sorted work wise. It's taken much longer than I thought for cycles to get more regular - still not that good yet.
Every month we get less ambivalent and more keen to be up the duff! It's hard to be casual about it, and although not doing anything formal like charting/temping we're still keeping a pretty good track of my cycle and enjoying the middle couple of weeks!!
Super exciting and fun time, but do hope this phase doesn't last too long. 2012 is in 2 weeks so I think I do fit this thread despite practising already :)

Hi all,
I'd like to join your group please!
We have actually just started trying for #2, but I think it'll more like be 2012 before we conceive as I've only just got AF back after my DS was born. So we are 'practicing' too Wooka! I am trying to get an idea of when I do OV. Yay for coming off the pill pookle, and for buying a preggy test nzgirl. Actually doing the first test is very exciting - especially if it is a BFP!
nzgirl - I am in the Bay of Plenty.

Thanks Buntingsmum; its surreal!
I really didnt think DP was keen for a baby right now, I always thought he wanted to travel more and move overseas and whatever; but I've been wanting a baby since forever!
I'm glad we have waited though, we've been together 5 years now so it seems right.
I'm gonna take some advice I read on another thread an wait a cycle or two before properly trying, so this stage Feb for me!

Nzgirl and Dzinergirl - I felt really naughty buying my first test (actually it may have been the second one, DH bought first - bet he felt really naughty too!). I actually bought one the other week WITH my 13 month old on my hip and STILL felt naughty! How silly is that!
So cool that you're all so excited to start trying. I am super excited about trying for the second - the frst one I was just seeing what happened - expected a long haul (Mum had problems) so wasn't really taking any notice and suddenly had a BFP. Didn't really like being preggers - really sick until 20 weeks and then got gestational diabetes (huge shock for me as I was (notice I said was) really fit). Anyway - am sure this time will be much better (positive thinking!). Totally worth the little man at the end of it though.
Pookle - much the same as me. DH and I had been together 5 years too. Got preggers 5 months after coming of the pill (and had been on it many many years will irregular cycles before that). Feb is when we concieved DS.
Hope you ladies had a nice weekend.

Hi all
Well I thought seeing as this is a WAITING to TTC I fit in here. We are getting married in March, once thats over we may think about trying for number 2, though ideally I want to wait until late 2012 to start trying, only because my brother is getting married late 2012 and Id quite like to enjoy the wedding with a few glasses of wine. So there are a couple of things that are affecting our decision on when to try for number two, oh and lastly I am job hunting in an industry with absolutely nothing going, so it may end up that having number 2 earlier than initially planned works better for us. Either way, I want a minimum of a 2 year age gap which, with M being 13 months already, I can pretty much achieve.
Enough rambling, will go and read back on the thread.

Add me in please - just got AF today :-( So we'll be trying again for our first baby in early January.
I'm 34, my DP is 32, we got pregnant on our first try but I miscarried just on 12 weeks back in October. This next go in January will be our third try since then. I'm in the charting thread too.
It's been a bit of a sh*tty year, so perhaps we're meant to wait till 2012 to get a great result - fingers crossed!

Haha, I guess there a few things making me want to wait. And one I havent mentioned yet is the fact I cant see my best friends having babies soon, and I would really like to have at least one child in the same age bracket, so I am sort of dragging them out haha. But three year age gap is what we were initially aiming for, I started getting impatient so had to make reasons in my mind to wait!

Me too Wooka. Would love a sept babe!
They also recommend iodine now as well for preggie ladies and breastfeeding - apparently good for brain development. Elevit has iodine as well but crazy expensive. Doc can prescribe both folic acid and iodine.

Buntingsmum is your little man a Nov baby ? Sem, Silvs and I all have Nov babies. (just noticed your ticker is similar to mine!)
I took Elevit when preg with Milla, never felt better! So will be taking it again with number two for the pregnancy. then switched to the super market one for breastfeeding

bubalys - the wee man was born 30th Oct (had been due early Nov), so yeah, I see almost the exact same age to your Milla and to the other girl's wee ones. Such a great age at the moment - I must admit, I've liked it even more and more as he's got older and more interactive and mobile. No walking for us yet though! Is Milla walking?
I took (and still do take) Elevit (well, has been very on/off through breastfeeding - am in the final stages of weaning). It's so expensive though I might see the doc for a script at some stage. Have returned to work part time but still harder on reduced income!

I was going to ask what you all thought of Elevit. Is it worth taking?
I picked up some folic acid the other day for the super so that combined with my multi vitamin shoul be ok right?
I'm glad we are waiting till after christmas to try; So many parties going on right now it would look so suspect if I suddenly stopped drinking. (i'm in the industry!)

I'm taking the apo branded folic acid $15 for 120 tablets cheaper than elevit, I'll get some more on script when I go for DD's 15 month jabs in the new year. I should probably take a multi vitamin as well would be good for my milk supply as well.

No walking here, Milla only crawled on her first birthday, though she is unstopable now. I did actually think she was going to be a bit backward and walk first because she is much more interested in walking than anything, not so good for my back!
I absolutely loved Elevit, I havent tried anything else but boy did I feel great for those 9 months (considering). I found all my other pre-pregnancy problems eg ulcers in the mouth dissappeared so I must usually be lacking something in my diet. I will definitely be taking elevit again

just check the levels of Vit A in the multi vit - too much vit A is a no no in pregnancy. I guess prgnancy specific multi vits shouldn't have it in.

Gotta love those early movers! DS loves standing (gets up by himself) but not at all intersted in walking (pulls his legs up under him when I try to hold his hands up!). My bet is Feb for walking!
I actually loved it when he started crawling - he could get things for himself instead of yelling!

Thanks ladies! Just read the back of my vitamin bottle and couldn't see Vit A so I should be ok, only got a week or so left of this current bottle so will switch to elevit onc I run out; I've only heard good thing about it!
Had staff drinks tonight, bit hard to think about not having Champagne for friday night drinks anymore (or any alcohol for that matter) when you are surrounded by it.
Been the craziest 6 weeks leading up to christmas, I'm glad its about to calm down.
I'm really looking forward to having a little one to look after and brag about, was talking to some dads at work tonight and they were telling me the most awful stories about their wives pregancies!

I'm not much of a drinker nowdays so the whole no alcohol is OK. However, I have been stuffing my face with blue cheese recently just in case ... really missed it last time.
Yeah, pregnancy has it's downsides but man what a cool little thing you get at the end of it all! It's also awesome when people offer to carry your groceries at the supermarket.

I loved being pregnant too, I was pretty lucky in the fact that I didn't have any of the major issues that some ladies get. The worst part was probably the pubis symbosis but even that was manageable...either that or my mind has done that wonderful thing of blocking out the bad stuff LOL
Ahhh I remember the days when Noah was just crawling...I miss them! Hahaha not that I'd change anything for the world
Note to self...start folic acid again!

I didn't love being pregnant didn't hate it either, I'm guessing it will be a lot harder with an active toddler to chase after - said toddler is getting faster with her walking - trying to teach her to hold our hands when she walks she was going well with it yesterday today she sat down every time one of us tried to take her hand.

DP picked up a present with "Dad" written on it and he said "Must be for you, you are the only dad here, unless D (my brother) is hiding something"
I just looked across at my little sister A(who I told last week we are TTC) and giggled!
Ah, would be epic if we have a bubba for next Christmas!!

Hi there,
Just lurking at the moment. However getting VERY clucky! DH and I have said we want to wait until DD is 1 (end of May 2012) However..... we may start doing BD before then, you know, practice and who knows what could happen!
My pregnancy wasn't great (however some ladies have it far worse) have no idea what it would be like being pregnant AND having to take care of my little monkey. She is crawling and I'm sure she is going to run like the clappers as soon as she gets the chance
Anyway, just wanted to stop by and say hi

Hope you all had a great xmas, ours was fantastic, having a 13 month old was so much fun, much more fun than last xmas when she was only 6 weeks! Its weird to think next chrissy I could be pregnant, Wow I will miss out on a WHOLE heap of food.
I kind of want to keep it our little secret the second time too, the first time everyone knew from the get go, I kind of want to keep this next one to ourselves for a bit

Lovely relaxing Christmas here ...
I am in the 2 WW so if it's a BFP it'll be very very early 2012!
Not sure about telling people early vs later - I was really sick last time so I couldn't hide it - especially as I work with family and frequently trips to the toilet (not sound proof!) is a bit obvious! Hoping next time I am not as sick but I don't like my chances!

Last time we told our immediate families and DF's mother decided to tell the whole world, she told people we hardly knew before my best friend even knew. I couldnt have been more mad at the time. Having people know by the time I was 6weeks made the pregnancy seem really really long lol I am sure that is not the only reason, but it did contribute to it.
Already thinking of names for number two, we had Milla's name by the time I was 8 weeks pregnant and can imagine the same will be the second time round , we are keeping the boys name we had planned and just finding a girls name. Love the name picking business!

Sethsmama - the 2ww really messes with your head doesn't it? When I got pregnant with DS we were 'trying' but I really had no idea of when I might have OV so it was all a bit of a gamble! There was certainly no conscious 2ww. I have been feeling tired but I think that's cause I am always tired these days and am reading too much into it!
This rain is awful - not idea how I am going to entertain DS today - DH at work. Poor people camping.

hmm.. looks like I am officially in here now.
*waves*
Was kinda hoping I was UTD this month, but after my natural m/c last month chances were pretty slim.
I still haven't had my AF yet this month, is technically due today, but have read it can be up to 6 weeks for it to return. I would have been excited, but I took a discover test 2 days ago, got a BFN, so I guess that would have been positive had their been any chance.
Anyway, here's to a whole lot of BFP's for 2012!

Welcome new people! Would be very awesome if each of us got our BFPs this year :)
As a side note....anyone with small kids have a kitten?
We have a bichon/maltese dog who is fine with our 10month old but were thinking of getting a kitten for him (the dog) to run around with, he LOVES cats. Just not sure about a mobile little boy and a kitten who would look like a toy.
I know thats not what this thread is about, but I know lots of people here are at the same stage as me so it's nice to get feedback from those in similar situations! :)
Cheers!
