Long story short our laptop died we've already repaired the dc pin twice and now windows won't start. We are thinking of getting a new laptop so recommend away.

I am a part time student and it will be used for mainly email, office, internet and minor gaming. I want a laptop as I like to be able to take it with me to the room to have some quiet time

I guess if you want to do gaming, you won't want to think about a netbook?

I would stay clear of an HP, we bought a brand new, top of the line (at the time) HP and have nothing but problems with it.
When we get around to updating we will be going for a Mac, they seem so much more reliable and durable.

I have a Sony Vaio and it's freaking awesome. I had a Compaq previously, and it was good, but the battery life was shocking. My best friend has a Compaq and is on the 3rd one in 18 months (all replaced under warranty) for various issues though.

I have a Mac and love it! Only thing I would say about them though is that there software gets obsolete really quickly and you really need to keep updating it to keep up. In saying that I have a relatively old one so maybe wouldn't have that problem with a new one.

I have a MacBook. It's 5 years old and counting. I've upgraded the memory and the hardrive over the years and it's still going strong. I'm a heavy, heavy user. WoW, Photoshop, Lightroom, Final Cut Express etc and it has no problems. It probably gets used about 4+ hours everyday.

MacBook Pro if you can afford it!

Sony Vaio, although don't get the floor model! I have had nothing but problems with mine! Key board issues!

Also stay clear of HP. They have over heating problems! Every HP PC and Laptop I have ever bought, including friends ones have just had nothing but issues!

I had a top of the line DELL and had nothing but problems with it and issues with DELL trying to sort the problems out. Fortunately I was able to go back to a Mac (MacBook Pro) and fell in love all over again. If you have been a Windows user for a long time though it can take a little while adjusting to the Mac way of doing things.

Dh is in I.T and Dell is nothing but a piece of crap, and has only ever brought Toshiba laptops but at the top of the range and have been the most reliable laptops he has owned. He gave me his old one and still going strong at 8 years old

Need to have a good look around for speed, decent ram, graphics card needs to be a decent quality one like nivida ge force 1 gb card

Toshiba has been the way to go for me. I had one and it died after about 4 years so I replaced it with a lovely looking Acer which I had nothing but trouble with! (my friend brought one at the same time and she had nothing but trouble too, was even different problems!) and their customer service was appalling.. Went away to get fixed and it took 8 weeks!!! So I got rid of that one after about 6mths and have gone back to Toshiba - all good so far and its been a year

I got my toy! DP got his ps3 and I got a brand spanking new samsung. I didn't want hp or compaq after you guys lol and they had a few acers or toshibas but nothing with these specs or the price. I couldn't afford a mac but our external also runs on windows and the only other mac we use is my brothers so everything else is windows based. Will look at a mac eventually. Graphic card isn't great but it will do for now and I don't game too much because of study so all in all I'm happy I had to get silver because pink was too girly for him lol
