I want to use my ergo carrier for my newborn. I know you can get inserts for newborns, but the sleepstore blurb on them suggest its from 3 months, which doesn't really seem like newborn to me. Has anyone used the Ergo fro newborns or is there like a weight they have to be first?

My understanding is that you can't get an ergo quite tight enough for a newborn without the insert, which is why a mei tai is better than an SSC (soft structured carrier)without an insert for newborns. But that's just what I heard at slingbabies, not personal experience.

Am happy to get the insert as it a shed load easier than buying a new carrier. It just doesn't look like its actually for a newborn.

I had the inserts for my girls. They were 1.6 & 1.7kg born and we used them from when they were about 5 weeks old.
I think the inserts are designed to be used only up to 4-5 months. And they have a closure strap for little babies - according to the brochure 5 - 8 pounds.

Hi fellow Sep mum to be I just purchased a newborn insert for my ergo based on recommendations from friends who used it with their newborns. From my understanding they can be used from birth if baby is a good size.

I used the insert with my wee girl from when she was 6 days old - good as gold. I have used it until a couple of weeks ago - so when she was almost 4 months. It was great - I wouldn't have beeen without it Just sold it - and I'm sure it will get lots of use

Excellent! I think I can get them cheapest from Ergo themselves as the are $25 US (provided shipping is Ok). Jano1 - I saw you had one too and was wondering whether you had got one.

I used the Ergo with the insert for our DD from a few weeks old, just great and snug and she was a littlely, just under 7lbs when born.

Yup I used mine with my DD from when she was 5 days old, and kept using the insert until about 4 months. You can also lay them in sideways in the ergo when they are that tiny, and the insert is great for that and the whole thing is just much easier.
