Hi I'm wondering if anyone can please help me my very loud and very happy 3 yr old boy is ok in social situlations, but when we prase him for doing something right he gets made and trys to hide, this happens when ever anyone trys to prase him weather its us, friends or family or even at Playcentre, I just dont know what to do about it do I just wait and see if he grows oout of it. It makes me feel bad like we have told him off for something that he thought was good and now he just shuts down on us, he has always been abit like this but he is slowly getting worse. He also does not like to be push into anything the more we try the more he shuts down, so we just let him do things at his own time, but it does mean he misses out abit. Apart from this he is very happy and makes friends very easly, is not shy around others, help I'm Lost

Have you tried different ways of recognising his good behaviour? For example you could do a sticker chart and just tell him 'that was good, have a sticker' rather than make a big deal of it shouting praise.

Maybe it is just his personality . . . I'm quite similar in that i don't take praise or compliments very well - i tend to get a bit shy as well and deny them. There may be some self-esteem issues at the root of it (certainly think that is where it comes from for me)

Not much advice to offer, but didn't want to read and run
