Can anyone recommend a Paed in the wellington area? I was referred to Vaughn Richardson but he is unavailable till mid August. Also Dr Patel's voicemail says he only deals with babies under 6 weeks.

DD2 has suspected reflux, uneven legs and hearing problems and I want to see someone as soon as poss. We are covered by Southern Cross so cost no problem.

Even my doctor is having problems finding someone to see us!

unfortunately 4 weeks is a pretty good time to wait to see Vaughn Richardson, I would just go with him, he is great

Susie, I'll have a chat with you tomorrow, but yeah, Vaughan Richardson is great and about the only one in Wellington. Pity you didn't get a chance to see Harshad Patel earlier as he is awesome too.

I think there are Hutt paeds but I don't know any, sorry.

Yes we also recommend Vaughan - there are others out here in the Hutt with shorter wait times, but we were told it is worth waiting to see Vaughan. I know 4 weeks is a long time to wait with suspected reflux, but in the meantime your GP can prescribe some ranitidine or losec to try.

We've seen Robyn Shaw and Phil Leadbitter in the Hutt but I don't know what their current wait times are like (we just waited 7 weeks for an appointment with Phil) or if they deal with reflux etc, sorry.

We saw Vaughan Richardson and in all honesty we weren't overly impressed. He did a lot of talking at us and didn't provide us with a lot of opportunity to give him our daughters casehistory. I found myself trying to talk over him as he kept assuming and I was determined to get him to listen. We ended up flying to Chch and seeing a specialist down there - who was horrified at the advice and medication we had been prescribed. That said my daughter was slightly out of the box and I just don't think he had come across the problem before and wanted to justify our visit to him. I had only heard good things about him before we visited him. I would just go into the appointment determined to advocate for your baby and ready to question why he is recommending what he is... the biggest thing is that you feel comfortable with the outcome. I have friends who have seen Leo Buchanan at Hutt hospital and were impressed. Good luck!

We see Dr Phil Leadbitter when we go up every couple of months at the Hutt hospital. He is a really nice guy and sits down and answers any questions you have. I have no idea if he is any good with reflux tho as DD is being seen about her strawberry birthmarks. Good luck

Does it have to be a Paed that diagnoses a baby with reflux? (Just asking cuz we have an apt with our GP to discuss reflux in Hailey)

Can someone give me the number for Dr Patel? My daughter has an appt with him (wellness check, on referral from MW), but they were supposed to send a letter with the time/date/location and I've received nothing!!! Needed urgently, I suspect its on Mon/Tue this week eek, and google turns up NOTHING!

Have PM'd you Guest

Fallen - i dont think it has to be a paed to diagnose reflux - Isla just has a number of other issues we want covered off as well.

Well the good news is I have an appointment with Dr Richardson for next Wednesday now - much sooner than i was hoping for.

thanks for your replies everyone
