Hi All
Well I have a very stubborn 9mth old daughter who refuses to eat anything other that custard, yogurt and fruit purees!!! She will happily open her mouth to these but when I give her vegies she will take one mouth full then refuse anymore! I have tried her with finger foods but she doesn't eat much! She had started waking in the night after sleeping through from 3 months hungry so I have been feeding her but then she won't eat anything in the morning and whinges for her bottle, I suppose my question is has anyone experienced this was it just a phase??? So fustrating considering her brother at the same age was a litte piggy and would eat anything!!!!! Do I just keep feeding her milk and trying food to in hope that she will like it??? Thanks in advance..... |

We've done BLW so no purees here...but somedays DS eats like a pig, other days like a bird. As they say "food for fun until they're one" so I try not to worry about it.
Milk is the most important thing for them nutritionally for the first year but it's also important that they get used to different tastes and textures. Mealtimes are reasonably stress-free here, if he doesn't eat much that's ok and we try not to worry - as long as we offer variety and give him the opportunity to try things that's ok. They won't starve themselves! And it could take many many tries of a food before they like it especially savoury flavours - milk is sweet so they're naturally going to prefer the sweeter foods initially. I guess what I'm trying to say is if I were you I'd try not to worry and just go with the flow giving her lots of options and BF/formula...  ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Tom took agess to be interested in solids and it wasn't really until he was nearly 12 mths that he finally got it and became interested in eating. Even now though he isn't a huge eater and I have come to realise that, thats just him. He still prefers his milk (b/f).
Anyhow I continued to offer him food (even through I knew most of it wasn't going to get eaten). I gave him food at our mealtimes and most of the time (within reason) offered him exactly the same as what we were all eating. He refused to eat from a spoon so I made sure he could eat it with him fingers and just let him play about with it. He hated baby foods (with the exception of the fruit pouches) and now I actually find it really good that we skipped the baby food stage and he is now happy to eat exactly what we do (compared to my DD who was a great eater as a baby but took ages to wean off baby food).

We did BLW as well and DD only really started to eat around 9 months and even now she doesnt eat much. Im not concerned cause if she really was hungry she would eat, just keep offering it before she gets over hungry and if she doesnt eat then dont stress. Milk is the best food until one. -------------

Have you tried mixing vege in with fruit, DD much prefers fruit to vege and will happily devour a large serving of fruit.
I made sure I stuck a couple of spoonfuls of baby muesli in with her fruit so that she was getting some sort of iron. Like the other girls have said, try not to stress about it, he'll eat when he's ready. My DS was much the same and it wasn't until about 9-10months that he started eating anything and even now he's not much of an eater. I just offer lots of snacks all day long as he seems to be more of a grazer, so he'll take a few bites of an apple and then nothing for an hour or so when he'll have a quarter of a piece of toast etc etc. I was much the same and this approach works for us -------------

| I would suggest mixing your vege with fruit ... and offering sweety vege like kumara. Or even mixing a couple of prunes in with things like carrot and pumpkin. You can gradually aadjust the proportions of fruit/vege as your DD gets more used to the flavours and textures. My understanding is that she isn't going to get all she needs nurtitionally from just milk so important to persevere. Good luck :-) |

My best friend's DD went through a phase of only eating fruit purees from around 9 months. It lasted till she was almost one but then one day she pinched some of my DS's quiche and ate it and then she was right into "real" food  My friend would give her veges mixed in with the fruit and would also puree the heck out of the "older" kids jars of food and add fruit to those too to try give her more variety. She also continued to offer finger foods at meal times and tried not to stress (sometimes easier said than do) if she wasn't interested. Interestingly she's always been better at eating with my DS around, we would have lunch or tea together at least once a week before they moved back home.------------- SJ Callum - Dec 2008 Daniel - Oct 2010 |

My DD is one of those picky eaters, but from 6mths to about 12-16mths she was a good little eater, I feed her lots of organic pureed meat and vege etc, she loved banana, stewed apples etc, but then one day just stopped eating meat and vege, almost overnight, never was much of a finger food girl and not good with fruit.
Now she only eats certain foods, only fruit she eats is banana and minimal apple, only vege is potato. She is a self certified vegetarian also, but loves eggs, thank goodness. Spoke to district nurse when she was 2 and she seemed unconcerned as DD is healthy and happy and admittedly she is still BF. She told me to stop stressing about what I couldn't get her to eat and concentrate on giving her what she wanted within reason, and slowly adding to that along the way. Some days its frustrating but you just can't push it and she is still a healthy little girl, mealtimes are just sometimes a bit challenging.  ------------- http://daisypath.com">
