Hey guys..
My boy is a month old and I have just put him into his cot previously he has been sleeping with me (I know alot of people do not agree with co-sleeping, this discussion is for advice only not debates please) I just wanted to know if any mums have had a similar experience and what they found was the best way to make the transition into the cot and sleeping by themselves. I've always done it the other way around sorry hun...as in they start in their own bassinettes and then migrate to my bed lol

This is the story with my DD too, was OK in her bassinet but HATES her cot!! I'm interested to hear comments on this as well! No previous experience with co-sleeping as my son always happily slept in his cot so this is all new territory for me. -------------

We made sure the cot was as similar as our bed as possible- eg made up with sheets/blankets (some people use sleeping bags, as he didn't have one in our bed I didn't change it to put him in)
and then we started with day sleeps, and he starts the night in his cot... The first time was awful trying to get him in his cot, but it took 12 mins of standing next to his cot, shushing/rocking/patting him etc for him to realise he WAS going to sleep in there! Lol... But our guy was a bit older when we started this... |

| racking my brains trying to remember, DS went to sleep in his bassinet but after his first wake up would be in with me for the rest of the night. And not just with me - ON me. He sleeps full time in his cot now so obviously we transitioned at some point (he was 2 and a bit months when he did and is 5 months now) and i think it took about a week but buggered if i can remember how. I think i let him go back to sleep in bed with me but would move him into his own bed once he'd nodded off and he must have got the hint that no matter what he was going to end up back in his own bed in the end. Thats some scary memory loss there - but take heart, it is possible! |

i transitioned ds2 from lying on top of me, to lying next to me, to lying in bassinet next to my side of bed, to his own bedroom and then to cot when bigger. he mostly napped in frontpack or pram cos he was a nightmare to settle and i wanted to keep ds1 going to his activities, but at least once a day he would nap in own bassinet by himself. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Thanks for the advice, since last night was first night I thought I would get advice first but he slept like a dream!! took a wee while for him to get used to being by himself he had a bit of a cuddle and a cry but after that middle night feeds and changes he went straight back in and back to sleep!!! wish me luck for tonight :) ------------- http://lilypie.com">

DS2 was 4-6 weeks old (I think??) when I thought, 'Time for your own bed!'. I started with day sleeps which worked really easily then tried night time the next night. He adjusted SO easily, I was stoked.

Alice - i think the younger they are the easier it can be sometimes. We had DS2 in his own bed within 4 weeks and his own room by 8 weeks. I just really don't sleep well with him on me, next to me or in the same room. Just can't switch off to all those little snuffles.
That was the soonest i could do it, going at his pace. DS1 was in own bed first night home and never looked back. They are all so different. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

We were pretty strict (DP had had enough of her in our bed :( ) I found that keeping consistent and giving her lots of cuddles helped. Also I would leave a worn shirt in there and had a wheatpack to warm the cot up before we put her in so it wasn't a cold, sterile environment. She was about 4weeks old and the transition went pretty well from my rather dodgy memory.

I think I just did it, DD was in our room for about 2-3 weeks then I just started putting her to bed in her own bed. She was normally asleep however as that was the only way I could get her to sleep. ------------- http://www.myfitnesspal.com/weight-loss-ticker">
