Arrgh I need some help/advice

I'm the treasurer for a local organisation and due to being far too busy and it just slipped my mind, last month I was late filing the PAYE. I have just received a $250 fine.

DH says we just have to sux it up and pay the fine ourselves. The organisation is a charity and it's not really fair on them as it was my mistake.

Anyway just wanted to know if anyone has ever been able to get off this fine and what is the best way to go about it. I'm thinking a visit to IRD might work as I'm 40 weeks pg and I would probably cry!

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yeah there is no harm in either going in or phoning up to plead the case. You might get it reduced? You might have a good visual effect LOL

Hi there, I would write a letter if I was you. Explain your situation and ask for them to reverse the penalties. Let them know that you have systems in place for the same error not to occur again. I think if its your first offence then they will normally reverse it for you. Good luck

Definately give them a call although they will probably tell you to write a letter, I have had the penalty reversed before by doing that, as long as it is not a regular thing they are normally pretty good about it.

I've had penalties remitted before. Just write a letter explaining the situation and promise to always file on time in the future and see what they say. The call centre won't be able to help and if you go in they won't be able to give you an answer right away anyway.

Good luck!
