Hi
So almost two weeks ago I hurt my tailbone on the big slide at chipmunks. I got air going down and slammed back on to my butt. Since then obviously my tailbone has been excruciatingly painful. Most pain is standing up from sitting Sitting Squeezing my butt cheeks together lol Sneezing And other general things we take for granted lol I haven't seen a doctor coz I kinds just thought it'd be bruised and would feel better soon. But like I said it's coming up two weeks and it's still almost just as sore. So should I see a doctor? Or be patient and it will just take a little longer to heal? Has anyone experienced something similar? Thanks |

I don't know what's wrong with you, but I do know somebody who broke their tailbone in a fall! I don't think the doctors do much for tailbone injuries because you can't exactly put it in a cast. The lady I know said it took quite a while to stop hurting; it's one of those things that get better with time. If it is really painful though, I would go to a doctor and see what they have to say. Maybe they can give you painkillers or something, or maybe some other helpful advice. You can also get a donut cushion to sit on so the bone doesn't make contact with the chair.

| I would go to the doctor. I don't know if they can do anything with tailbones now but i know that when i cracked mine on two separate occasions i had to deal with it because they couldn't then. It still hurts now (first time was 10ish years ago) but you can get donut cushions to take the pressure off the pain when you are sitting. |

YIp i hurt my tail bone (cracked it) when i was 18 - i am now 32 and sometimes it still gives me pain
Oddly enough though it has been a heap better since i had my daughter LOL |

I fell on my tailbone when I was 21 I think (31 now) and I didn't get it seen. It gave me pain just like you described for sometime afterwards, even still after several years I'd get pain every now and then, especially if I'd been on my feet for a while. After I started seeing a Chiropractor about 5 years ago, the pain got less. Then, like KazS, oddly after having my first daughter I haven't had any problem since!
Go to the doctor, like others have said I don't think they can do much for it, but maybe you could get prescribed some painkillers/antiflams to help? -------------

I fell out of a tree maybe 4m high when I was 12 and landed on my tailbone/butt. I bruised it quite badly and it hurt for quite a while after. Every now and then it hurts as well but the only time it really bothered me was when I was pregnant. Otherwise it's only if I put too much pressure on that area or sit for too long.
I think the doctor would only give you pain killers of some sort (I had to take normal panadol) and you could try a donut cushion. My grandma has one from when she had a fall and also hurt her tailbone. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Yeah, that's kinda why I haven't seen doctor yet as I know there isn't anything they can do.
Bah! Maybe I'll look in to going next week. No chance of having another baby here to fix it unfortunatley

i cracked my sacrum when i was on a flying fox (as i was sitting on the plastic piece when i collided with the ground)
hurts like a mofo for all the things you said. i went to physio, she used that ultrasound machine thing to help it, and it did help |

Also by going to the doc or physio etc you can lodge it with ACC so if there were any ongoing issues, you could get some cover there. And the visits should be cheaper cos would be an ACC claim. ------------- http://alterna-tickers.com">

i got a twisted damaged tailbone giving birth and have found physio & chiro good, very sore pulled the sacrial (sp) muscle as well. anyways 5 years later its about 90% back to normal. good luck with your search on recovery
you dont need to go to the doctors you can go straight to chiro or physio whichever is your preference |

Oh ouch, tailbone injuries are the worst, it is amazing how much we use it without realising.
I damaged mine about 10years ago snowboarding and it always gave me pain from time to time, pregnancy seemed to make it worse too. I coudnt find a donut cushion, looked everywhere, so ended up using a regular cushion on either side of my bum, you can also use rolled up towels. it did take ages to heal, it must have been close to a month I think. -------------

I have a few older friends (over 50) that had broken their tail bone and eventually they got it removed. I don't think it's very common though. Friend #1 was one of the first to have it done in nz then we both met friend #2 through work and she'd had it done a few years later.
Perhaps your dr could refer you to physio or something though? -------------

I hurt my tailbone too - slipped on wet floor and both my feet went flying up in the air and landed on tailbon.
6 years later I still have problems. I remember at the time the dr saying it can take a long time to heal, think I sprained it but they didn't xray it at the time but after giving birth it flared up again and I had an xray done and they think it had been dislocated at some stage. When I first hurt mine, I had to wait a few weeks before I would let physio near it because it was too sore. But it is still worth getting it checked out so if you need physio etc later you can claim under acc. ------------- http://lilypie.com">
