Subject: Family Cloth- Would you do it?

A friend of mine pointed me to this http://www.pennilessparenting.com/2011/04/cloth-toilet-paper-revisited.html#more - blog and asked me what I thought about doing family cloth.

I reckon its a good idea, but would only use it for pee and not #2. Although I do use cloth wipes on DD so there is not really any difference except social perception on my part.

Would you do it? If not why?

Well, it kind of makes sense. I don't find it too gross... although you'd want to wash a lot, the bin doesn't look nice and sealed like a nappy bucket. In saying that, I don't think I'm going to rush out to try it.

In theory I think its a great idea but to be honest I don't think I would do it. I'm too lazy to have to think about yet another load of wahsing   And also even though I don't find it 'gross' I do have trouble getting my head around the idea but don't really know why.(IYKWIM)

No I would not use it. If using only for #1 then it would only be me as my house is full of boys. No way would I want to wash them when AF is around

I don't get how you would dump them straight into the wash from a bucket, surly with a cloth nappy you would clean off any poo before putting it in the washing machine...don't want poo floating around in my washing machine.

I would rather cut up news paper & use that...

It doesn't gross me out at all, but I'm far too lazy to do it. I already have enough washing to deal with on a daily basis as it is

I'd do it if it were already set up for me! The "having to wash it" bit doesn't gross me out at all, as we already use MCNs, cloth wipes and mama cloth pads!

ditto on the MCNs, cloth wipes and mama pads hehe although it doesn't gross me out rinsing poo off cloth wipes for my kids, don't think I could do that for myself, and definitely not for DH LOL so would just be for #1s if we did it.

You're pooing into the toilet Rach, so there'd be minimal poo on the wipes in the end ;) Though still a good idea to start with wees if you're weary, you'd still save heaps of loo paper I reckon!

I don't see how you will save $, you have to wash them & dry them so that vs a couple of buck does not seam worth it.

I wonder how much it cost for toilet paper a yr

Toilet paper's damn expensive! I buy the cheapo stuff, and don't enjoy buying it (I joked once to DH that we'd just have to save it up and go at work ). Still an expense I'm willing to pay, though!!

Don't think I could do it! Although I use cloth nappies. I could possibly do it for #1s but probably not #2s I can't get my head round it.

As for the poo floating round the washing machine when your machine is going through a rinse and spin cycle anything that is in there gets spun/pumped out so there isn't actually anything in there. I do rinse DD's nappies if she poos but sometimes you just can't get it all off without scrubbing and I don't have the time to scrub her nappy while she's yelling at me and pulling on my legs, plus its slightly awkward with the way the laundry is set up. A hot wash every now and again (which incidently you should do anyway to break down the fabric softener and soap scum build up) and your machine is clean.

You would probably save a bit on TP in a full house how long does a roll of toilet paper last where as cloth wipes last years and years and years and probably cost only a couple of dollars more then that roll

I would, convincing dh would be another thing. It would save us money as we already use cloth wipes for the kids so no extra washing I'd just put them in with the nappies .

For us we use a pack of 18 rolls per month so I think it's about $6-7 dollars. Pack, not much saving but every little bit counts.

Is it just the thought of rinsing poo that would stop people ? You could do a pre wash rinse first if that's the case.

Yeah I would wash them with the nappies too so wouldn't be extra washing. Would definitely rinse poo off first as I do that with the nappies anyway.

Think we will look into it. Not sure what DH would think but he has no problems rinsing/washing nappies so doubt he'd be too grossed out. I made all new wipes for DS so still have all the ones from DD in the cupboard that we could use as a trial. Would need to get a sealed bucket though so DD doesn't play with it and maybe a separate container for DH so he can rinse his own hope that's not TMI lol. Anyone else going to try it?

Its not that much & you can get the real budget ones so it has to be cheaper than cutting up squares, washing them & drying them....then folding them in a old box...

ewww, may as well go back to using your hand than have re-usable loo roll. I'd rather use bidet than re-usable paper.
Dealing with Dd's sh*t is bad enough why would I want to contend with my own or Dh's for that matter.

I find it revolting.

pudgy I don't like the idea. I have 3 kids & have been wiping butt for 10yrs. I worked in a daycare & we used cut up cloths to wipe butts & threw them away after.

Something I don't think should be recycled to me this & tea bags should be on the no recycle list.

Don't you think it is a bit degrading for your DH to have his poo washed off a rag so the rag can be reused for someone else to wipe their butt?

I don't want to wash cloths from visitors toilet trips either...what if 1 had her AF how embarrassing for her & me.

For me it would mean a wash for them only.

So agree with you Jazzy not liking this idea at all.

Way better things I would rather spend my time doing and there are lots of other ways and choices to help the enviroment plus save money that don't involve me washing ### off cloths! - washing cloth nappies for my two is bad enough!

What if you went to someones house and cloths were all they had! - but the blog says family cloths so I think she has TP for guests!

But each to their own I guess

Hmmm, it would be much the same as sharing undies really.
I definitely couldn't do it for #2s, I could for #1s but I don't feel it would be worth the extra effort.
Would there be any kind of environmental benifits? Sorry if that seems like a really dumb question, my brain no longer works lol

Yep it would be 'our' families cloth too.

I see your point jazzy . But I don't think it's degrading for dh to use cloth. Why would it be degrading ?

I look at it as it's just poo. And cloth gets it off easier too.

I am amused at all the different reactions to this! If you had asked me five years ago I would have thought it was gross too!

The original blog post link says that the ladies husband only uses family cloth for #1s, and there is toilet paper available for guests and for her husband and his #2s. Her and her two sons use family cloth exclusively.

Whilst the cost of toilet paper isn't a concern for me, the environmental cost of manufacturing, packaging, shipping etc. is as much, if not more of a concern to me than the cost. I already buy the "environmentally friendly" loo paper, which costs a little more than the cheap stuff, but it's still wrapped in plastic, and a lot of energy was put into manufacturing it and shipping it all over the country.

Another spin is self-sufficiency. If there were a natural disaster tomorrow and you couldn't access usual services then having your own supply of family cloth would be a huge advantage - I'm sure after a few days all your neighbours would be intrigued about your system and keen to copy! That said, I'm not sure how one would go about washing the used cloth in a sanitary way during a natural disaster!!

Plus there's the waste aspect of it - anything "solid" that goes into the sewerage system is eventually removed and taken to landfill, so all that toilet paper you flush away is going to end up at the dump.

If I was going to go without loo roll I'd just use water instead. For me convenience and cost out weigh any environmental benefits.

I could do it if I HAD to, but wouldn't really choose to do it. I just find loo roll so convenient, if we didn't have any at home at the moment then DS would have boogers everywhere cause we have run out of tissues lol.
DH wouldn't agree with it, he finds it weird that we use cloth nappies and wishes we had disposables I can only imagine what he would think about cloth loo roll!!

Haha, I like you, LuckyRed, nothing like saying it how it is. I agree, too. Even though I think in theory the idea isn't that bad, I'm not running out to do it, probably for those reasons.

In saying that, it makes me feel very lucky. I mean, lots of people have to do what we naturally find kind of gross... I'm betting in some countries they don't have the ability to do a wash every day, either. And if I had to, I'd rather have to re-use loo cloths than some of the things people less well off than us have to do as part of life (drink dirty water much?)

Not, of course, that that has any impact on me choosing (or not! as the case is) to use cloth... just ramblings I thought of

Oh... and only kind of related... but a fact I learnt while preparing a youth group talk the other day, of all things - in Roman times, they just had a stick with a sponge on it in a bucket in the communal bathrooms. You'd wipe yourself down and pop it back in the bucket for the next person. That's where the phrase 'getting the wrong end of the stick' came from. Err... yea... no hurry to go back to Roman times, myself!!

Hmmm, I don't know. In all honesty, I probably wouldn't.
We use MCNs and cloth wipes here (Waiting for AF to return so I can try out the mama pads!) but I'm really not sure I could go as far as cloth toilet paper.
Besides, our house set up is not ideal

Plus I'm the only one on the green bandwagon in this house so my parents wouldn't use them.

I'm happy to be using paper rolls thanks

Oh and SoyBasedMama....... you mention natural disasters and how having a stash of family cloth would be an advantage if you weren't able to access usual services.... having just been through a natural disaster, sometimes you don't have access to washing machines either.... or water for that matter!

I have to admit, I'm kinda tempted! I know it seems gross at first, but really when you're already doing cloth nappies, how different is it? And think how much nicer a damp cloth would be on your bits than scratchy old toilet paper?? We don't have a nappy bucket - just a wetbag in the laundry, so I'd just do the same for us and have a smaller wetbag beside the toilet. TP for guests though!

Degrading washing his poo of a rag so it can be used again..or even more degrading having his wife was his poo off.

So I asked DH about this & he is not interested in doing it...I am being polite here. I think if toilet paper went up to a huge amount we would get rid of sky & still keep toilet paper.

Oh & if my kids recycled there pooey butt wipes at home I can just imagine the call I would get form the principle at school regarding them recycling or stealing toilet paper at school

I love the stuff I come across on this forum.

My friends had a hard enough time getting their head around mooncups when I talked about using one. Let alone telling my friends we use reusable cloth instead of toilet paper!

Toilet paper is cheap, plentiful, renewable and flushing it is sanitary. I could not stand the idea of handling these cloths and e coli and other bacteria standing in a bucket or regularly going through our washing machine.

Maybe we are 'spoiled' in western society but I see disposable toilet paper as a definite perk.

I too love the things you come accross here... funny enough haven't had this convo IRL!

Was thinking about SoyBasedMama's comments extra impact of plactic wrap and transport of the TP also I thought it would just break down and not end up in dump.

Still not keen to use 'family cloths' though I too think we would give up sky rather than go without! But am thinking that ever had the $$ to renovate or build I would investigate a bidet thingy or a biodegradable eco toilet.

I don't really have a problem with it. The matter on those cloths will be far less than what any nappy-changer uses. It sounds like a smart idea to make paper available for visitors (who would probably not be aware of it anyway, it looks so discreet). But, I'm not going to do it, at least not yet. #1 I have plenty enough to do, #2 Toilet paper isn't that expensive. I estimate one 25c roll per person per week, so that's $1.50/week for a family of 2 adults and 4 kids..... $78/year. I'd prefer the convenience than that kind of savings.

interesting topic and interesting replies!

if you had asked me 9 months ago i would have said 100% no way , absolutely not , never! but since september thanks to the earthquake here in chch we have had next to no sewerage for the last 8 months in my suburb meaning either the portaloo in the street , the longdrop in the backyard, or the chemical toilet. I have had to get used to bodily functions and shoveling dirt over my buisness in the back yard and emptying the chemical toilet filled with the faimlies buisness and sharing one portaloo with my entire street so using cloth wipes wouldnt worry me at all lol, in saying that i wouldnt go out of my way to make them , im happy to buy toilet paper , i dont find it expensive ,if i got caught out and didnt have any toilet paper then it wouldnt bother me using a cloth and then washing it but i will keep buying toilet paper.

I think 'crunchy' is an Americanism? That's where I heard it first. I like it, none of the other words like 'alternative' fit quite properly (although I don't really think I class as crunchy myself)

Where do you find more info on these mama pads people are talking about? I hadn't heard of them (and aren't really sure if I'm keen), but I'd like to learn more.

Hopes- Ecomoon sell them (she makes her own) or you can buy them on trade me, in fact I think quite a few online baby stores stock them.

I think the best thing any lady can invest in is a moon cup/diva cup they are FANTASTIC. They save you so much money, last for up to ten years and all you need to do is steralise them before use and then at the end of AF. So much easier than yukky chemical laden sanitary products and your not adding to the landfills- just think your products are going to sit there for the next couple of hundred years! You can get them on TM, or just google it.

Why would it be more degrading for DH than anyone else in the family?

We don't do family cloths - probably wouldn't unless the price of toilet paper went up dramatically. The reason we use cloth nappies and cloth wipes is because they save us money - the environmental factor is a bonus. Family cloth wouldn't save us a substantial amount of money, so no need for us to do it at this stage.

ETA - but I actually have wondered why I hadn't heard more about this kind of thing when you hear so much about cloth naps and mama pads/ moon cups etc. I thought about it for us In the past but yeah, I'm not so much a greenie as wanting to save money.

Hehe, reminds me that I'd just bought my first (small) mooncup to try when I found out about DD and consequently gave it away. So it's still a mystery!
I was using washable pads though, my mum gave me a bunch she made and they're great. So much more comfortable than plasticy sticky ones - went back to them as soon as practical for PP.

Re the actual topic - no major aversion to the idea, but just don't think I could be bothered

I bought toilet paper tonight a pkt of 4 for $1.99 so what that .50C a roll, not budget.

DH & I have had a laugh over this topic, must read her blog to see what else she recycles

They are made of flexible bendy stuff so you fold it up and insert, then twist a little and it pops open again. It took me a coupler of months to get it right but now it's awesome. And it's paid for itself in 5 months .

ok so I don't really know anything about them & I don't want to gross anyone out or be too nosy...& sorry in advance for the questions, but do you remove it every time you go to the toilet & what do you do when you are out & can not wash it out. How do you pick the size.

I think more people are probably curious but not enough to ask
I only empty it twice a day or usually three times the first day or two.   The websites have charts for sizing, if you've had kids they re ommend the biggr size.   They come with a stem on The bottom that you trim to size to help you remove it but it annoyed me so I cur it off.

If you're out imusually just empty and then rinse once I get home. Or you can buy flushable cleaning wipes but you don't need them.

It's helped reduce the cramping I get and I am sure it's made it lighter as well, plus ***tmi****. You don't get all dried out like do with tampons. Have google of femcup, moon cup, fleurcup and do a search on tm they have a few too, HTH

Far out I wish I could do twice a day!

I obviously have a bit more than this, but usually on the first couple of days, I clean it every couple of hours. I'm also amazed how you sense that it needs changing too. It only took me a couple of days at the start of two AF's to get the hang of it.

I have a ladycup, it rocks! There is no way I'd use Mama pads, that is just cause I think pads are foul in general.

If I'm out I use toilet paper to give it a wipe, or a baby wipe cause I'm out with the kids usually anyway. Toilet paper out of those big dispensers is pretty hygenic. You could get away with not wiping it.

On the issue of Family cloth...no way I'm washing something that has been near someone else's bum, I have issues enough with the foulness of my boy's bowel motions I don't need to deal with the rest of the families as well! We grow enough pines quickly enough to me to keep buying toilet paper

I think it's disgusting and unhygienic in my opinion because it's a "family cloth" and not an individual one. I got given some 2nd hand cloth nappies from a friend for my baby but they were not used on her baby's bottom. If they were, I wouldn't feel very comfortable using them. I can imagine others would because they think that it's been washed and cleaned.

For me personally wiping my bottom, washing the cloth and expecting someone else to use that same cloth grosses me out. There are surely some bugs that survive a wash perhaps as well.

I agree with some others - on the scheme of things, toilet paper is pretty cheap. Of all the things we spend money on surely that should be one of them?? Each to their own but if I visit your house please don't expect me to use your reusable toilet paper. Ew! Is that what this lady does? Perhaps she now gets less visitors??

If you are buying items from a supermarket and not just fresh meat and fruit/vegetables then how is that any different? Everything we buy from the supermarket is packaged and shipped etc. I don't see how adding packaging of toilet paper makes much difference in the scheme of things?

Ah, I guess that explains it then - both DP and I change stinky nappies or wash poo off clothes, not just me. We both don't have issues with doing that. So that's why I didn't see why DH's/DP's got special "it would be degrading for them but not the rest of the family" treatment or understand how it would cause humiliation or loss of respect for them but not the rest of the family.

Just to be clear - I wasn't advocating the family cloth (though I have no problem with people doing it) - I was just surprised that DH/DP's had been singled out as it being degrading for them (and not everyone else).

I hate pooh! i would not want to clean my husbands or kids pooey cloths! Cloth for wees i could do i think though.

A comment on the reuseable sanitary pads though.. Before i got my mooncup i used them and would pop them in an empty container with water and use the water on the rose bushes. they never looked so good as when i watered them that way! i found them less gross to use than disposable pads - which i couldnt stand!

Oh and Fats i am a somewhat crunchy mum having used cloth nappies and reusable pads and used to wear my babies and did BLW.

Yep give it a quick wipe out and pop it back in

As for cloth TP been there used that when we've needed to and I think the idea is more revolting than the actual practice. There was nothing to scrub off after #2s and it only required one wipe rather than a couple since the cloth was damp. I use cloth nappies, wipes, mamapads, and kitchen/cleaning cloths so TBH a handful of TP wipes a day isn't any hardship.

ETA oh yeah hahahaa I've used leaves too when tramping - maybe as a male alternative you can plant the TP tree (seriously theres a particular bush that has huge soft leaves that are perfect for TP) and harvest the leaves for them

ETA x2 I lost my Babe profile so had to sign up again

Oh yep, I've used leaves plenty of times in my life. Mostly when we were kids playing in the bush at Mum and Dads and got caught short, though. Pity they're not so great on the absorbancy factor.

You said it wouldn't be degrading for you or the rest of your family as you have no problems wiping your kids butts or washing poo off your kids clothes. So I took that to mean your DH doesnt like to do those things and that's why it would be degrading for him to use the family cloth and not degrading for the rest of the family?

And I thought that explained why I had been having trouble getting my head around the idea that it would be degrading for your DH as opposed to all of your family. I didn't get the difference - didn't understand why it would be degrading for him but not you.

Sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick! (No pun intended)

I think its degrading for anyone. I mean we have the money for toilet paper so don't need to recycle something like that.

I don't want a bucket of of poo wipes sitting around forever waiting for a load to wash.

DH is really good at wiping pooey butts after all he has had years of practices our oldest is 10yrs old. Our youngest is 5yrs so we are coming out of that washing poo off clothes so why would I start finding stuff to wash poo off now, lol eww.

If I lived where there was no toilet paper or did not know any better then there would be no issue...but why would you do it if you live somewhere where it is standard practice to use toilet paper. What are you really trying to save or change?

Or should I say I don't care what someone one would use I don't want to wash it

Theres a huge difference between wiping a pooey bum thats been squelched and spread around in a nappy and wiping up after you've sat on a toilet and everythings gone into that. I mean even with my 3yo theres barely anything at all to be cleaned up. Ever have to wash skiddy undies? Cloth TP is even better than that.
I like the environmental factor, cutting back on production energy, packaging, use of wood and so on. I always think that just because society thinks something is acceptable doesn't mean that it is. Tobacco has been a hugely accepted part of our culture and others for a very long time. Clearly what society accepts at various stages of its (un)development doesn't make it the healthiest option.

I don't think it is actually the wiping of butts, but the washing of cloths to reuse & the fact that they sit around for days before washing them.

Smoking has been around for centuries & cultures have used it in different ways, for many different things. Now that we are told of the harm it can do & the rising costs it puts a different light on things. Once advertising for it showed you would be cool if you smoked & now it shows the opposite. It is an addiction like a lot of things.

Lol I remember as a kid (living an a VERY poor house) using newspaper and junkmail and even the phonebook as TP.
And my mother used the family facecloths when she had her period. *vomit*...That has stuck with me and I still find it difficult to use facecloths now *shudder* and the "soaking bucket" *vomits*
I guess lots of what happened in my childhood "scarred" me, hence my more "consumeristic" lifestyle now. I use tampons and pads and tenas for when I run and a liner every day for CM which I get plenty of (thanks PCOS you rock) and deoderant and cotton wool wipes for my face.... AND toilet paper. Lol.
If you don't use any of these things, more power to you...however I hope you don't scar your kids for life like I have been!! LOL (that is a little tongue in cheek BTW I'm sure you won't be)

I personally don't see the eww factor in washing them. I've used those flushable sorbent toilet wipes before and had them after I gave birth to DD because they get things so much cleaner so much quicker.

Stick them in a bucket of water and tip it down the laundry sink (we have poo go down it anyway because of DD's cloth naps) then its not floating in your washing machine. I've managed to catch DD just after she's done a poo and changed her and there was next to nothing to wipe.

I think the environmental factor is huge, if you imagine how many trees get cut down to make the TP and then times it by the amount of TP that is made to fulfill the market you would save a forest a year EASY!

In saying that I know it wouldn't work in our house as we live with my mum and dad and bros and they wouldn't go for it. It might work with just us 3 and I think it would be quite a good thing when DD is grown and menstruating as it means she's clean especially in those first years when your trying to get the hang of it.

But have everyone considered the environmental impact of having to use hot water (instead of cold) to wash them in. Factor in your washing powder, electricity then if you are going to have to tumble dry (all the costs involved with that).

How many will chuck it in with the normal washing? You still have a chance of bacterial infections (specially thinking of girls here) so you have to use hot water. You will be sharing these cloths between the family.

That's exactly what I thought, Babe, in terms of how much poo actually gets wiped onto the cloth! Good to hear from someone who has actually done it!

As for the environmental cost of washing them, I wash DDs nappies in cold water and line dry in the sun. As the original blog poster said, she wouldn't eat off of them, but they do get clean!

Originally posted by pennilessparenting pennilessparenting wrote:

Do I mind using them to wipe my bottom? Absolutely not. They're clean!
Do I think you can get sick from touching the cloths? Most likely not, but even if that were a possibility, that would only be if I touched my mouth after touching the cloths, but, like most normal, sanitary people, I wash my hands after using the facilities and using the cloths.

Actually its quite funny the things that subconciously have affected me about my upbringing. I mean, I'm over it, I use the term "scarred for life" in a loose sense but if I look hard enough lots of what I do and have are probably kneejerks to my upbringing.
Another wee one made me laugh today. I had a wee fella form mr 6's class here for the day and he hurt himself and it wasn't bleeding but I asked him if he wanted a plaster to "make it better" as you do (well I do ha ha) and I opened up my "medicine" cupboard and he says "Woah! Is that your emergency pack?" and I did a wee mental inventory of what I have in there, and we never had ANY of those things as kids EVER. Never had plasters, medicine, paracetamol/disprin, bandages, cold medicine, arnica or antiseptic cream etc etc. Man so OT. Sorry OP.!

Yeah even with my 3yo after a toilet trip theres barely anything on there. I just chuck any TP cloths in with naps and wipes.

We drink water thats had all sorts of who knows what put in it, taken out and mixed around, we eat food containing chemicals proven to cause cancer, we use cleaners with a toxicity level strongly indicating links to birth defects and infertilisation and we use personal products with all the above crap plus chemicals linked to diseases such as alzheimers. I use cloth wipes for my babies and thats not gross so why on earth would it more unhygienic to use them for myself or DH? Also you don't bin your underwear after each use do you? They come into just as much contact with bacteria down there as TP wipes do. I think it helps if you actually think of an idea in its full context rather than assuming its worse than everything else you do/use/put near your body.

I'm actually friends with the Penniless Parenting author BTW lol we often discuss various socially whacky ideas

Good point, never even thought about that! And totally agree with the rest of your post too - a bit of poo on a wipe, no matter who it came from, is the least of our worries! Especially for us mammas who deal with poo every day!

No,I wouldn't,for the simple reason that I really couldn't be bothered,to ME (and its fine if this isn't everyone's POV) life is for living, not for washing the excrement of my family.

Meh, I do it when we run out of TP... cloths just get rinsed and dumped in the nappy bucket. No extra washing or electricity or detergent or water used.

I really dont see what the big deal is, its poo and wee! I wash my hands and dettol and canneston have antibacterial washes...

Im not sure about the rest of you but I dont tend to smear poo all over my backside when I go to the toilet...

i use cloth napies etc so that poo isn't what grosses me out so much .. tho DP poo ....
I just dont see the point in it .. why would I do extra loads of washing when I already wash mt washmore everyday .. and can hardly keep up! then to dry them put them in a container .. and wet them. sems like alot of work.
Toilet Paper wins hands down for me its cheap and easy .. If it came donw to not being able to afford it (i would be pretty worried if times got that tough) I would go without ... my MAKEUP really Toilet Paper is part of life just like toothpaste ..
also do they use different colours each person .. I hope so!!
We spend our whole lifes being taught not to share germs etc .. so why would be share what we wipe our bums with seems worse to me then drinking from someone elses bottle.
I get the whole enviroment factor -- but surely theres something else I could cut out insted of Toilet paper. like my weekly Womans Day!
Of course if i run out one day i guess i would use a cloth of some sort but i would biff it ..

I must say i have huge respect for Toilet paper now lol ...

I don't need a blinky or a tag or a label I just did my "job"... Im not crunchy im just lazy ha ha. And soooooo un pc.

haha! we did "feeding themselves" too, and I carried/carry my babies, have them sleeping with me, breastfeed, use cloth naps (much of the time :))... I don't really consider any of that very alternative... infact from looking around I'd consider it pretty mainstream?? ... but family cloth, no thanks no way am I wanting to make more washing for myself... and really tbh it grosses me out!

Someone mentioned it would be good in a natural disaster... I think if this is a concern you'd be much better off having a big stock of loo paper, cos the chances are in a big natural disaster like the one we've had down here, you won't be able to wash all your wee rags if you have no water or power...
