Hi all, I have a couple of questions, both on sleeping but not really related to each other!
1. I keep reading about not using fleece on my baby's bed as it doesn't breathe, but we have been given several sleeping bags with a cotton/flannelette inner and a micro-fleece outer. They do look snug and warm but are they ok to use? I've seen so many fleecy ones for sale. We cant afford merino at the moment, so are waiting and hoping we win baby of the day! But in the meantime...?
2. DD is 8 months old and recently has been refusing a morning sleep. She is quite happy sitting playing at the moment but every so often gives me all the tired signs. She has never been a big day time sleeper (either length, frequency or enthusiasm) and doesnt usually suffer too much, but she is getting really overtired by evening. Do I need to re-jiggle her routine? She has been having one sleep in the morning and one after lunch most days, and a third nap later afternoon if needed. These sleeps are usually 30-50 minutes in the morning and 1-2 hours in the afternoon. Maybe I need to give her a nap late morning rather than mid morning, but then that goes into lunch time so she doesnt eat till late. OK, maybe I need support rather than answers here, I know I just need to try and see what works for my little monkey. Enough worry, I'm going back to play with her and her favourite toy at the moment - a cardboard box with a hole in for fishing out toys from. I never knew a box could be so much fun I'm sure once she starts crawling / walking she will be getting more tired and should sleep better. At least thats what I'm hoping!!
Thanks

I personally would not use fleece on your DD's bed. I put DD in a fleece jump suit once and she got so hot she was sweating, however I didnt notice until I changed her If you can get hold of some old wollen blankets they are the best- they might be scratchy but they are warm. Have a look on trade me, there are people that make merino ones and sell them on there, they are not the branded ones but work just the same.
My girl started dropping her 3rd sleep around that age, I just went with the flow and she did 2x45 min sleeps, slowly lengthening them out. She is now down to one 2 hour sleep *sigh. Dont worry about when she is eating, if she is hungry she will eat, just make sure she is not starving before bed. Good luck

we were advised not to use fleece in their bed - prams etc is fine as its for shorter times.
Mine has cut to 2 sleeps - just has a later lunch

I have read fleece can cause overheating. I used fleece blankets heaps as they are so washable, but not for overnight use since my baby slept with me. He wore fleece all-in-ones and clothing fairly often & there didn't seem to be an issue.
I'm totally just guessing here but I imagine the danger of overheating is more something to worry about with a newborn. By 8 months, they don't sleep so deeply, they'll let you know if they're uncomfortable and they're past the main SIDS danger stage.
As for the naps, babies are always changing their sleep patterns ... it's hard to keep up with them! Each baby is so different too - you've just got to watch for their cues and keep guessing. It's the main job of being a mum - trying to figure out these little creatures

Thanks everyone. I wont use the fleecy bags at night, I was never comfortable with the idea, but might during the day if we are somewhere chilly (and she isnt crawling). As for the naps, I'll keep trying! I did read somewhere that ear infections can affect them sleeping, so if nothing changes I might see the doc. Poor wee thing had a good sleep last night but still looks so tired.
Once again, thanks for the help and support, this is what makes this forum and everyone on it so great. Being a mum isnt easy, very rewarding for sure though, but the support of fellow mums and dads and grandparents makes everything just that little bit better
