Its Amelias 2nd birthday coming up (in july) and im trying to decide between a Mocka Balance bike or a little tikes cozy coupe . does anyone have any thoughts or opinions on what would be the better choice ? She already has a wee trike with a handle and pedals that i push her in and i can take the handle off when shes a bit older but i dont think shes anywhere near that from happening yet as she cant reach the pedals so might be a while before thats used as a bike . She loves using the cozy coupes at preschool but also loves chasing around my dp's 6yr old on her bike and always tries to hop on it. we have quite a big concrete driveway area that she can use . ------------- http://lilypie.com">

| Daniels coupe is probably the best toy we ever brought. Its still a fav and hes nearly 4 now. I think she would get more enjoyment out of that at this age than the balance bike. Maybe get the balance bike when shes a bit bigger |

My daughter is 3 and LOVES her balance bike, but she is only just all enough for it now, so she may be too little at 2? Both my girls had a Cozy Coupe cos I thought they were so cool, but they have never really been that into them...

We brought Tom a ride on van for his birthday present and he plays with it everyday. We used to get one from the toy library all the time for Ella and it was definitely the most played with toy. ------------- Mum to Ella (5) and Tom (2) |

My son was in his cozy coupe every single day over summer. He loved it, and it was great with his imaginative play (always off to the shops to get milk!).
When it was given to us by my mum (who spends way too much money on my kids) I was annoyed thinking it was going to be a waste, and a big space hog, but I have been surprised by how much Jackson loves it. I can see him enjoying it for some time to come, and then there is the 2nd boy who will love it too. Haven't had any experience with balance bikes yet, but when Jackson was 2 he was still REALLY into the little plastic trikes (motorbike) from the Warehouse - about $30. He's only just outgrown his love of that toy now. So, you could compromise and get both? |

We brought DD a balance bike for her second birthday in March but have found that she needs to grow a couple of inches to be able to ride it properly. She can touch the ground with her toes on both feet but if the bike gets on a lean she can't hold it up. I would recommend taking your DD and trying her on one before you buy. Height is a real problem and because they are quite low to the ground with no push handle it really kills your back trying to push them along.
We also have a cozy coupe and both Miss 2 and Master 4 still get heaps of use out of it. Perhaps think about the balance bike for Xmas instead. Hope that helps. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I also think 2 might be a bit little for a Mocka bike. We were looking at the same two presents for our son at Christmas time and he was 2.5 at Christmas. We ended up going with the cozy coupe and DEFINITELY made the best choice. He also is in it every day and it's either his car, bus or boat! He loves it. Our other son at 9 months loves it too so I know we'll definitely get our usage out of it plus they sell for quite alot second hand on trademe!
Plus if you think about it, your daughter turns 2 in July which is cold and wintery so she won't be able to ride it much at all outside where as the cosy coupe can be used inside. Maybe you could think about a mocka bike for christmas.  ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Balance bike all the way! They girls got a mocka all terrain balance bike each for their 2nd birthday and they love them! They are such fantastic bikes. The great thing is they won't need training wheels because they are getting the hang of balancing straight away. They ride their bikes almost everyday and never get bored. We love taking them everywhere. Even when we travel. Although I have to admit they didn't really start using them until 6 months after they got them as they couldn't reach the ground but they do have a smaller version for younger toddlers.
I think long term they make a better present because they last so much longer and are much more portable. They also resell really well on TM. Maybe take her into a shop and try her out first to see if she can ride one? -------------

thanks Ladies , i think i will go for the cozy coupe now and look at a balance bike for christmas which as carnelian says will be alot warmer than it will be in July . for the cozy coupe maybe have a look on TM and there is always heaps of 2nd hand ones. The one we got is actually a van so both kids can go in it or they can put their toys in the back seat. Also there are several different sizes- some of them are quite a bit taller so will last for longer. I think the warehouse often has ones on special but they are the special models so therefore won't last as long. At least when she is 2.5 it will be summer time so she will probably get a lot more use out of the bike then. ------------- Mum to Ella (5) and Tom (2) |

Jake has loves his cozy coup and still plays with it sometimes, and Morgan loves it too (used to cause fights!!) but the balance bike would be so cool. I think you've made the best decision, as most kids I know who have balance bikes got them closer to 3 or on their 3rd b'day. ------------- DS (5yrs) and DD (3yrs) |
