We're about to buy a second car which is much smaller/economical/prettier(haha!) than our Previa.

The girls are still in their car seats and will still fit them FF for another 6 months at least (They're 3yo, 13 & 14kgs and the car seat goes to 18kgs, so just height dependent).

Anyway from a safety point of view does it matter if their legs touch the drivers seat? I mean E will be able to place her feet flat on it.
It's only really an issue when DH is driving.

I've never really thought about it. We have a big station wagon but DDs feet still tough the seat in front of her if she has her legs straight. If she folds them it isn't an issue.

Because I'm going from a Previa to VW Polo there's a significant shrinkage in space so I could be reading too much into it.

However, even with E's legs relaxed, I think her toes will still touch the seat when DH is driving, not when I'm driving though.

i think it might be ok and not matter.
my thinking is kids who are extended RFing have even less room for their legs and its ok/doesnt do damage

but i may be wrong.

perhaps the people on the nappy network may have better answers

I guess it might only be a problem if her feet are actually jammed between her seat and the front seat. If they only touch the seat when extended it shouldn't be a problem.

I agree with this. It's one thing if she can hardly get her legs in the gap (I think that would be uncomfortable and risking injury in even a minor accident), but if she reaches out a foot and touches the seat, no matter how easily, I wouldn't worry about it. Our (much younger) child is RF and will be for a long time - in his old seat his feet were already resting on the back seat so his legs were a bit bent and I'd never have considered it a problem. Sure there's probably a risk for her if your DH has an accident while her legs are up there - but that can be said for anyone with legs long enough to put them somewhere (or short enough to put them on the dash )

Thanks everyone. Got the car today, seems ok other than the fact that she can kick my seat when I'm driving, so we'll see how long before I get fed up of that

My3Sons, I hope so! The Previa was costing us $125 p/w on petrol so won't be hard.

They're in Hipod car seats, not sure exactly which model.
I love them, they are quite slim, even in the Polo I can squish between the seats in the back.
