Hi All,

We are getting confused over what we can and cant feed our 7 mo old.

She is eating the usual pureed and mushed fruit and veges and is doing nicely on chunks of raw fruit. We've been giving her meat / vege mash. She has yet to refuse anything, unless she isnt hungry, and doesnt appear to have an allergies / intolerances, and there is nothing in the family since my grandparents.

But what else can we feed her? We are getting confused by what we read, hear from people and Plunket etc. We'd like to give her more finger food and nibbles / snacks.

Vegemite sandwiches? Rice Crackers? Cheese straws? Egg-less cookies? Shredded chicken?

Can you all please wade in with your ideas and advice to confuse us even more! Recipes or links welcome.

Thanks!

You can give them pretty much everything except honey, raw eggs, cows milk, peanut butter, high sugar/salt foods. Make sure everything has a low salt content as babys cant handle much salt. We did baby lead weaning which is were you give baby finger foods rather than puree and mash. I just give her whatever I am eating. I waited until 11 months before giving DD dairy as she gets excema from it.

What she said
Eggs in baking is fine, DS was trying fritters and pikelets etc

At 7months, DS was trying bits of everything we were eating.

I've been collecting Annabel Karmel's recipe ideas for when we get beyond purees with DD.

I get Mother & Baby Magazine at the local library with her recipes in them.

We have been giving my DS cruskets since a little before 7 months. They kind of dissolve in the mouth so if you are worried about gagging/choking they are not an issue for that. You can give them plain or spread with avocado or cream cheese. Someone at my coffee group this week said spread them with marmite and cheese and put in the microwave for 15 seconds to make quick mousetraps as well (you let them cool and go hard again before giving to bubs).

Thanks everyone, I like the idea of a little bit of what we are having. We'll try that, and also check out those recipes. Poor girl is off her food a bit at the moment - first teeth on their way by the look of it - so I am game to try anything she might eat.

What the second poster said. Lily has always just eaten exactly what I've been eating except egg (didn't offer that until maybe 9-10mo jic).
