What are YOU doing to celebrte easter this year?
Is is a holiday for you or a religious occasion? What do you tell your children about easter bunny/easter etc?

Always interested in what others do over this time.

Interesting topic. Obviously DS is too little for anything just yet, but it is something I've been thinking about lately.
We aren't in any way religious, DH was as a small child. I still think its important for DS to know the religious background to the holiday though, and will eventually discuss that with him. And will definitely do the whole easter egg hunt thing, it was huge in our family growing up and I want that for my children.

As for this year, we have family coming for the weekend and re having a bbq on the Friday (meatless apparently) and will probably get a small chocolate egg for DS.

We do "easter bunny" but we also do the religious thing too, Im a Catholic and the kids are at a Catholic school and pre school, so there is no escaping that for them! They are looking forward to the end of lent, too, Jake is "sick of helping other people, I want to watch tv" ha ha (the focus of lent for school this year was helping others/self sacrifice and at pre school it was beign thankful and making pictures for people, I have, no kidding, about 100 paintings here form miss 4...)
Santa kind of fitted in soemhow with christmas and Jesus so Im kind of hoping easter bunny will too. However we bring them up I think its important for them to know why we "celebrate" it.
Im hoping to take mr 5 to Anzac parade too.
And I am looking forward to a long weekend! We have a 40th to go to and kids have a birthday party, so lots to look forward to.

We have had DD christened so will be taking a slightly religious stance but not over the top - I guess sharing the story with her when she is older.

Also want to get into the Easter egg hunt and I so cant wait to paint eggs with her and do the craft type things - must be the school teacher in me hehe!

This year we are going away, as we always do and we will buy DD a small easter egg.

I told Issy the story of Jesus last year .. so we will probably tell her again.

We tell both kids the Easter Bunny leaves eggs and we do an egg hunt in the garden, although we do goodie bags and they are not all filled with eggs or chocolate, some have small toys or stickers, crayons etc.

Oh and we are all going to get our Wiggle on as the concert is on Easter weekend.

We've got a 30th Cocktail party on Easter Saturday, so depending on the night, we may be hungover on Sunday or... who knows.

The kids get a chocolate egg each and that's about it. Some years we either go to my parents or the outlaws for lunch/dinner.

Not a religious family so we don't really do anything in that regards.

DD's too little to understand the meaning of easter but when shes bigger I will explain the reasons behind it. We're not religious in any way but I feel its important for kids to know about religion and different traditions wether or not you believe.

On easter though we always do a big easter egg hunt with my family, I've got a neice and a nephew as well and Mum lays the hunt for us and every one including all the big kids (ranging in ages from 25-32 lol) participate. Then we have a lovely family lunch

We are off to Tangalooma Island as we have 5 days off so figured we may as well do something away from home. Jackson will get a small chocolate and we will take some hot cross buns too. Im going to find an Easter book to read to him so he learns about it like Christmas. We arent religious in any way but feel its important he learns about it in some way.
Then we will do an ANZAC service on Monday as we always do every year. Jackson will wear DH's Mini Medals.

Im planning on doing nothing. Just another weekend for us. Still yet to decide if ill even bother getting DD an egg. I might just get some little ones for us to share.

MIL is doing some form of dinner, they always do it & are religious. If she wants to explain the reasons for Easter to DD she is more than welcome. But i think for them its not even about Easter just an excuse to have the family all there for one meal

I have one hell of a busy weekend. I have a 7th birthday on Saturday that now has a guest list of 19 . I have house guests galore all weekend and then to top it off I have 3 ANZAC services to do on Monday. I am really looking forward to the Dawn service in Feilding, I get to see some friends I haven't seen since leaving Waiouru and it is the first ANZAC since Timmy died.

It a holiday for us and a time to spend with family and of course, eat chocolate! We aren't a religious family either but as the kids get older we will explain what other people's beliefs are as I think it's important for them to realise not everyone believes the same as us - and that that is OK.

Anzac Parade, DS's dad is army and will def want him there to march him around. Wonder if i can talk him into letting DS wear some of his medals? And then i will eat my weight in chocolate. DS is obviously too small to do anything with in terms of egg searches etc

I was raised Catholic but we are a non-religious household and DD is too young to understand any of it.
I am starting a new tradition of giving her new winter pjs every Easter instead of chocolate.
DH will get an Easter egg and I will indulge in Hot X Buns.

We are taking DD to the Zoo on Good Friday for the first time and have ILs coming up so DH and I are going to be heading out in the evening and leaving MIL to look after DD for us.

ANZAC don't know where we are going this year, will probably be awful as its the 1st anniversary of last years iriquous crash.

Meeting up with some of the OB Mummies coming to Akl for the holds

I'd love to do an egg hunt, but my dog would eat them as fast as I hid them!

same fattarts - having a sniffy Beagle dog would not be a good thing in this case!!

we are not going to be doing much, hopefully just a relaxing weekend. We are not religious so no church etc but we also are not into the egg hunt thing. I have never been on one so wouldn't know where to start setting one up . Easter was not a big thing when I was a kid so I am not really into it. We will buy the girls a small egg each but that is all - the grandparents always give them too much anyway

I am going off the diet, going to eat chocolate, have a wine, chips etc, all the foods that are not diet friendly.

Might go to church, not sure but on the Sunday have a big family catch up, Easter egg hunt and yummy dinner. Followed by more chocolate right up to 11.59pm, then diet again

Hubby is working thru holidays are his busy times. we will go to mum and dads on sunday and do a hunt with all the other grandkids/greatgrandkids and anzac day will more than likely go to the service with work. didnt go last year cause of ms and i didnt fit into my uniform.

Once emily and charlie are bigger they will have the religous side explained dad is a retired minister so religion is important to me not so much dh though.

I was brought up to respect Easter as the most important event in the Catholic calendar, even more so than Christmas. Every year we would listen to the Jesus Christ Superstar LP and I would sing my heart out to it, and shed tears at the beautiful heartbreaking story. But we were the 'go to Church every Sunday' type of family, and unfortunately in my own adulthood I have lost that tradition. But I do tell my DD the story of Jesus and as a family we go camping at KeriKeri every Easter and have a big Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday.

Dunno quite what we will do. Dh "may" take the boys to church...his religion, not mine. We will def do an easter egg hunt. There is a local one organsied on Saturday so that should be fun. Last year I made hot cross buns on Good Friday and they were so yummy that I hope to find the recipe and do them again. But mainly I think we will celebrate the fact that Harvest should be finally over and DH will be able to relax!!!

ANZAC day...normally I play the pipes in a band but since moving down here I havent found that too exciting and being a small town we dont have a big band parade...just one or two pipers and drummers and the others that will play are a) TERRIBLE and b) PITA!! So I might go down to the cemetery and play on my own at my great grandfather's grave....if I still have enough puff to play.

We don't do the religious aspect, the 2 at school know about it from Bible at school, I was brought up with the religious reasons on it & we went to church & then a family lunch & a few eggs. We do talk about it with them.

We normally go out for a walk to find the Easter bunny, DH looks out the window & says he saw the Easter bunny hop over the fence, after he has put a few little eggs downstairs. Then while I am getting the kids out the door he will put a few inside upstairs & outside. I will get 3 little baskets or boxes for them to put their eggs in & leave them on the front step without them knowing & then we go looking for the Easter bunny around our street.

I am also getting them a few other things, new winter pj's each, sox, book, colouring book or paper, bubbles & the egg hunt will finish with the new pj'j on their beds. The reason I am doing extra stuff is because of the school holidays so a bit of a survival pack & they need new pj's lol.

We are spending about $50-$60 on eggs, I was going to make them but DH is not keen on that. We saw a bag with a bunny & a few little eggs in it for just under $10 so will get the boys one each & a couple of bags of tiny eggs & a box of little eggs for the hunt, also a couple of packets of marshmallow eggs.

I am getting DH an egg also as he is a big kid
