I recently found out one of my fallopian tubes had/has a blockage.

The Dr who did the xray procedure said it would be good news for me if she cleared it - and she said she did.

At the follow up appointment a few weeks later we saw another Dr (did it through the public system), and she said that just because they can force liquid through does not mean it is cleared and is referring us for treatment (which is great, whatever that might entail).

We are still trying while we wait for treatment, but I am curious about the conflicting advice. Does anyone else out there have the same problem, and what advice were you given?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

How long were you trying to conceive before heading to the Dr? DH and I have are into our 5th cycle for #1 and haven't had any luck. He has a varicous vein around his left teste and I was a stupid girl when younger so possibly have tube issues from being irresponsible. I just wondered how soon you can get checked out - a year seems a long time if we aren't functioning properly.
Sorry don't have any advice for you, I hope someone can answer your question, conflicting advice is never good!

Hi Hopeful74

I found out I have a blocked tube when I had my HSG Xray in november. The procedure was quite painful for me as the doc tried 3 times to push the dye through to clear any blockages but it wouldent budge past 5mm on my right side, my left side was clear and the dye flowed easily through. The doc said you can still fall pregnant on one tube as it kinda takes over runs overtime for the one thats blocked.
At my review appointment with my fertility specialist, she comfirmed yes you can still get pregnant but my other tube (the blocked one) will still act normally and if its the side that releases the egg my body will just reasorb it and I will have no chance of falling pregnant that month. She also mentioned that everymonth you release an egg form one tube, but they dont swap over and take turns at doing so evenly. One can be the dominant tube 3 cycles in a row the other 2 cycles etc.
I am now on the waiting list for an diganosis LAP surgery too see whats going on in there.
There is nothing else wrong with me, I OV every month, have good hormone levels. DH has a great SA result. I was put on clomid for 3 cycles but that didnt help...I just cant get pregnant!! Grr
My FS did mention endo as a possible cause as I have painful periods but you cant tell untill you have a look inside so hopefully I get an appontment soon

Did your doctor mention surgery for yourself?

Hi Brunettie86 - we were trying for about 18 months before I went to the Dr. By the time I had the xray procedure for the blocked tube another 5 months had passed. If you are concerned I think you should mention it to your Dr. Good luck with your baby hopes!

Hi LadyBee - thanks for that info, it's very interesting. The follow up Dr gave us very little info. We waited an hour for our appointment, and she was flustered and rushed us through it. What we did get out of it is a referral to Fertility Associates. The Dr said for 'treatment' but I am not sure what that entails yet. Hopefully the appointment isn't too far away. Good luck with your lap surgery and I hope it happens for you soon.

Thanks, I think both DH and I will head to the Doc if we don't get our BFP this month.
