Hey - had to create new profile as having trouble with cookies on the website (sigh). Anyway, on the 2nd May I'm hiring the cafe that is next to the Henderson Plunket Rooms and West Wave (called Zeal) on a Monday morning. It's to raise money to help support the Mothers Helpers charity (supports single mothers and mothers with post-natal depression). It's open from 9:30am Monday mornings from that date - which is the first day back at school after the holidays. So if you are a mum and want a coffee and some time out (creche service is available) head down there!
In the meantime - I am just wanting a bit of advice (small).
I need some creative (and affordable) ideas if anyone has any.
You know how at cafes you have a number for your table and it sits on a stand often? Just wondering what I could use instead that would identify different tables, be creative and look nice without me having to go out and source and buy them. Something cheap but nice. Just can't think of anything. Happy to glue/make something.
Creative ideas anyone???

One of the very popular cafes in Wellington uses flat smooth stones with the order number painted on it - they are so popular that they now sell them as so many were taken home as souvenirs
Another cafe I have been to uses plastic animals - so your order might be the elephant or zebra or cow rather than the boring #5 If you could find some at a second hand shop it might not be to pricey
good luck - it sounds like a very good idea

I like it! Thanks for the ideas! Plastic animals might go along with the kids creche/kids friendly cafe idea. And I like the idea of the pack of cards, and the rocks! Feel like doing all 3 lol...
Was thinking about using PVA glue to glue a wooden peg to a wooden skewer and then that to some kind of a weight (and then I guess the "number" eg. card from a deck) would be clipped into the peg. But couldn't think of what to use for the weight.
Great ideas though, thank you!

Cafe Windsor has ornate crosses (they're part of Windsor Park Baptist) as there table holders, they're quite heavy which is good for the outside tables.

What about something in baby jars - a wooden spoon with a number on it that sits in an (empty, washed!) baby jar? Good luck!
