Hi there
My daughter is 1 in a week. Can you suggest any good online resources that provide info about how to introduce cow's milk to her? I think she's ready to drop her morning feed. Do I give her milk in a sipper cup when I would usually give her breast milk? How much should she have? Should she have it at other times during the day as well? She is a good little eater and drinker.
Thanks in advance.

Do you still breastfeed her in the morning or give her the breastmilk in a bottle or cup? With my DS he was on bottles by then so I think I started to mix the formula with some cow's milk until it was mostly cow's milk. And he also had it on his cereal anyway so he knew the taste. Don't think I took that long over it - just until I ran out of the tin of formula and then decided that it was too dear to buy more so cow's milk it was!

I don't think there is a set amount that they should have. You can keep up the breastfeeding as long as you/she wants to and offer her cow's milk at other times - even if it is just on her cereal at this stage or a small cup at morning tea/afternoon tea time. My DS just gets milk with cereal and a cup before bed now and occasionally if he seems hungry in the day and I don't want to keep giving him snacks.

Hope that helps

My DD doesn't have a morning feed, she dropped it at 8-9 months but when we introduced cows milk at about 12.5 months we just put 50mls in a bottle to see if she'd like it (she did and screamed when it was gone) she took it and we gave another 50ml so she had 100ml in total.

We're still BFing so I am quite random when I give DD cows milk. We plan to BF for a while longer yet so to me it isn't important that she has it but for when we stop I'd like her to like the taste or to at least drink some sort of milk... I give it to her in a sippy cup but a different one to her water cup (different style and brand). I have given it in a cup but less gets spilled in the sippy cup so I save water for cups.

I would just offer it for breakfast and see what happens.

I started giving DS milk on his cereal about a week before he turned one, then started mixing milk in with his formula. After about a week we went straight to milk - didn't seem to phase him and he loves it!! I only give him milk on his rice bubbles in the mornings, then he has about 150mls in a bottle at bedtime. Not too sure how much they are meant to be having, but he's happy with water during the day.

Thanks everyone, that makes it all seem quite straightforward.

Yes, still breastfeeding am and pm. She has cow's milk with her baby muesli so that the taste is not a surprise to her when I give her a drink of it.

MIght try it in a straw cup soon and see how she goes. I guess I'll give her a drink in the morning and at night.

Thanks!
