I've been thinking about it a bit more and TBH there is nothing stopping people from linking to a thread at the moment, so it really isn't SO different.
For example if I have a non-OB-mummy friend who is having issues and I know there is a thread on OB with helpful info in it then I will send them a link to it (could be via email or by posting on their FB wall).

it must be to do with the boards being public anyway as in anyone can view, so why not let us link it directly
but i do wish that button was somewhere else.
i keep clicking it when clicking randomly on the page to b able to use my arrow keys to scroll around.

TOTALLY DONT LIKE IT!!!!! Its fair enough that OB is a public forum...but at least make interested people put some effort in to search for the info. The more public it becomes the less likely people will want to share info.

i know it is a public forum anyway, but it will certainly make me think twice about what i post (as others have said, before now you had to be interested enough to do a search on the tpic for it to come up).
It will no doubt encourage more people to post their more personal issues under pseudonyms . . .
another 'disliker' here!

Emailing a link to a thread to one person you think might benefit from it is one thing and I have no problem with that, but posting the link to a thread on FB for all to see in their newsfeed is another.

Just tried this with some pics I'd put in the gallery last night... it posted the link to my FB wall. Deleted it off there straight away as I didn't want to advertise it, so don't really know what the privacy is like for people who aren't regular posters on here who try to follow the link (if that makes sense!).
Not so happy about it though - I feel comfortable posting photos in the gallery because of the restrictions it has

Really don't like it. Yet another reason I'm glad I've changed my username, stripped my avatars. It's also a reason I'm not on OB much. That, and the fact threads are linked to on the main OB page. I know it's a business and it's a public place, but I feel it's losing its community feel.
Not cool OB.

HI ladies
I've just read this thread.
I have posted a announcement just to say that the facebook links have been removed - as it was a software update...we have reverted back to the old version now...
I think sometimes the assumption is that with software updates you are getting the new and improved version that everyone should like...but that has clearly not been the case here and we've heard you and taken that away :)
thanks and take care

Thanks on the weight loss note my 5 things would be
1- move (I walk)
2- eat less (still hard to do)
3- don't give up (battle all the time with that one)
4- support & I have to say that our weight loss group here is what keeps me going sometimes, they motive me & give me the determination to keep going even when I have a bad day.
5- still looking for that lol

ha ha...well I have decided not to use the car. So I walk. I drop the kids at the walking group so they walk to school & then I walk DS3 (in pram) to kindy & then I walk home, so that is just over 6km. I have an our when at home & I make beds, hang washing, tidy up & what ever I can find to do, on lazy days I fold the washing & watch TV. I then walk back to kindy & then home again which is just under 6km (depending on what way I go)then I finish what ever needs doing or start dinner. Then I walk to school or a pick up point if DH is not able to pick up the kids.
I am adding a couple of 6km walks back into the weekend.
So I am walking about 70km a week.
I first started walking so much to see if I could go car free for a week & when I found I could there was no reason to stop walking. Also I only shop once a week so have cut down the $ spent shopping & go in the weekend when they are home with DH...wonder how much $ I am saving

When I had DS1&2 at home I went walking at night before it got dark & would make them dinner & go & then have something light at night & that was when I lost the most....so I gota give up dinner ha ha

Good idea. I tried walking to work once. It's all up hill so was good but I have to take my eldest to school but she wouldn't walk that far and we only have 20 minutes yo get tree from the time the other two start with caregiver. Hmmm lunch break walks might be the thing to do. Just need to start actually have A break to do that ;) at least the weather is cooling so it won't be too hot.
So what about a typical day's menu? What does that look like for you?

* Butts in*
Guys I've lost 20 kg (and have 15 to go) and the key really is eat less and move more!!! And you NEED to sweat. If you aren't sweating it dosen't count!
Get help and advice from a professional if you can afford it - we have had to scrimp and save to pay for my trainer (who helps me with food too) but it is an investment we were prepared to make.
D
o it with a friend - you NEED to be answerable to someone, it keeps you honest...I see my trainer every day at school so, yeah. WE also have a closed FB group for all of us bootcampers etc, so we chat in there and hse givers us all tips and tricks etc.
Keep a food diary - you do think twice if you have to write it down
Drink heaps of water
Find something you like and DO it. Start off slow and short and build into it.
You DO have time - you either make time or you make excuses...:) I get up at 5.30am if I need to, and it SUCKS the fat one and more often than not I am in bed by 9pm but its what I have to do. I also have 3, yes 3 jobs as well as freelance writing work and 2 children and a business with my husband...Its hard to cram it all in but I make time.
I saw my mother almost die this year after having her leg amputated due to 20 years of not bothering to look after her diabetes that came from being grossly overwieght her whole life and eating rubbish food and smoking and never doing any form of exersize. After the amputation (above the knee) she had 22 heart attacks in 24 hours and if she hadn't been in hosputal she would be dead. She is very very lucky and her heart is so badly damamged she will just literally drop dead any day. She also has high blood pressure and cholesterol and smokes like no bodys business. This is NOT the example I want to set for my children and ladies, its not the example you want to set for your children, either.
You owe it to yourselves!!! It might not be easy, but together we can do it!!!

im currently training for a half marathon so my diet is all weird and protien shakes and low carb high protien and stuff but generally includes porridge for breakfast with berries, green top milk and a splash of low fat yoghurt (I include protien at every meal) a protien shake for morning tea, sometimes blended with a banana or just eat banana and some nuts on their own, and sandwich for lunch, 2 slices of molenberg soy and linseed, salad, not dressing, 20g grated cheese, 50g of meat of some kind - lean_ afternoon tea same as lunch dinner salald or stirfry or veg (but no corn or peas or potato) and about 200g lean meat.
Frut for snacking but not in the afternoons unless there is a big run that night.

Seriously FTR that is awesome! You are so right just need to blimmin do it! What a motivating piece of writing there. Do you blog this? Jazzy do you blog about yours? I would live this stuff. Such inspiration and passion and just showing how it's done and the struggles etc. As I'm sure it's what all of us go through.
Awesome stuff.
Okay so... Where is the weight loss thread? |
I do have a blog, but have kept that to my "published" stuff, lol.. Ive thought about putting my weigtloss stuff in there but haven't done anything yet as I seem to use facebook as a micro blog and keep stuff in our closed group in there. I really should though cos Im just so passionate about it, and keen to share the ups, downs and stuff with everyone (she says after eating 3 shrewsberry bikkies at lightening speed, lol- although I have done an hour at boot camp this AM and 45 mins at spin so can "afford" them, ha ha)
