Hey I my DD is 3 months 1 week old and she's been really irritable yesterday and today. She's usually a fantastic sleeper. Once we put her down at night - after bath and bottle, she goes off great and only wakes once in the night. But last night she woke 3 times and tonight she took hours to get to sleep! I thought it might be a growth spurt as she has been drinking a lot in the past 48 hours.. She sucks her fingers all day every day and is drooling like crazy! She also had a red check for some of last night (only one side). I thought it was way too young??? I've tried googleing it, but with not much luck. Has anyone else had this at this young? And what are the signs of a teething baby?!?!
Thanks :)

I think it's about three months when babies discover they can suck their hands, and it's also when the drool comes in. These can both happen regardless of teething, just as a natural developmental stage. Chloe definitely did this, and I kept thinking I was going to see teeth, but she's seven months old and still no teeth.
Three months is on the young side for teeth, but it's not unheard of. Some babies are born with teeth! Also, they can cause trouble for ages before they actually break out of the gums, so sometimes it's very hard to know. Pesky teeth!
EDIT: Can't give you teething signs other than what you can find on Google as I haven't personally witnessed anything that could have directly related to teething (seeing as how we're just gummy over here still).

DS started to dribble more and definitely found his hands (and everything else) around that age...that's when I started putting an amber teething necklace on him thinking he was teething.
Could be a growth spurt too...you'll know in a day or 2 if she goes back to her usual ways.
DS now has 2 teeth at 5.5mths old but they came up (within 3 days of each other) without anything more than a red cheek and a tiny bit of nappy rash - no tears, no unsettled nights...but all babies are different.

We had the exact same thing at 3 months but no teeth until... 10 MONTHS!
3 Months was when she discovered her hands and would frantically suck them and she dribbled so much I swore she was teething! Even the doc thought she saw white dots on her gums but apparently it isn't dots but a line that you should see...
It could be a developmental thing (the sleep) as they become more and more alert, aware, etc. Or a growth spurt. We had quite a big growth spurt at 7-9 weeks and then from 12-14 weeks.
DD cuts her teeth without red cheeks but some babies go quite red! Some say runny nappies and runny noses but apparently those are 'myths' - basically each baby is different though when it comes to teething. 3 months is young but not unheard of and like Missshell said - some babies are born with teeth!

Thanks guys - that's very helpful! Will ride it out and just go with the flow over the next few days. If it gets worse will see doctor. She was quite hot tonight so will moniter that.

We got the same thing at about 3 1/2 mths (especially the RED cheek) and whaddya know first tooth at 4mths and 2nd at 4 1/2mths.
So it can happen, though they could also just be moving around in there, teeth are pretty terrible things when you have a baby!

I cut my first tooth at 12wks so it could be teething, although it could be developmental as others suggested.
You could try a bit of pamol at night if she is still unsettled and/or teething beads. I think from memory bonjela isn't recommended until 4 or so mths but that is your call.

Yeah she's just not herself aye.. She's usually a VERY smiley and happy baby! But today she's ben very quiet and not smiling much at all. Also still quite difficult to get her off. We have give her pamol and she seemed to settle down after while.
Thanks for the advice. The more and more I think about it, the more teething makes sence.. We will see :)

My lil petal got her first tooth at 4 months - now at 8 months she has just cut her 8th tooth
She was doing the same as your bub for about 3 weeks before she cut the first one
Plunket said they were just moving - which they can be and it hurts a bit like teething - but they dont come through - well they were wrong but teething dosent always mean they will cut
Can you see any bumps, or lumps or whiteness or blisters on her gums ?- most likely the 4 along the front, top and bottom

I looked and she has this white line (raised) going along her gums.. I don't know if it's new or not as I can't say I've ever looked in her mouth lol.

if its still quite a defined line and firm its just the regular appearance of her gum - if its teeth it will be a little more puffy and softer and look slightly different to the rest of her gums
try giving her a cool flannel to suck on - helps loads for both my girls - to take the heat out of the gums and the roughness feels nice apparently

It could also be an ear infection. When my son had an ear infection he sounded very similiar to your little girl.

the thing about teeth is that they can move about and cause a lot of pain a long time before they even break the surface. so it could be teeth related but you may not see any for a long time still.

Hey guys. She had a big un-interuped sleep (first in a good few days) yesterday afternoon and she was much better after that. She was smiling a lot more and way less irritable.
Since then she's doing much better. no more temps or crankyness. My DH reckons it was a growth spurt (as she wanted more milk than usual). But I'm more inclined to think that her teeth were giving her problems!
Thanks for your input! Definitely put my mind at ease :)
