I'm beginning to think DD is heading towards cutting her afternoon sleep out  She used to go down soon after lunch and sleep for 1-2 hours (2 hours was a really good day). She's never slept much during the day.
Recently, her sleep has been getting later and later (went down at 2pm yesterday). She just doesn't appear tired at all. When I do put her down she chats away and eventually drops off and sleeps for 30-45mins! She then lasts until bedtime, but only just. She usually goes down around 7pm, but have had to make it earlier lately because she's tired. Has anyone experienced this, anything I can do, or just go with the flow? Am a bit worried with daylight savings ending soon as I wanted to make her bedtime later gradually -------------

Yup sure have!! Amelie dropped her day sleep at around 16 months. She too would go to bed but only talk to herself for an hour or more and occsaionally sleep/. She is now in bed at 7is and sleeps till 730ish. Sometimes if super tired she will have one to catch up but otherwise I just went with the flow. Seemed to work well for us -------------

Gabrielle has gone through stages of not sleeping when I put her down for her afternoon sleep. Over the last year or so there has been weeks where I have put her down and she's slept for 20 mins or so, and then all of a sudden she goes back to sleeping for an hour or so. She's currently not having a day sleep at all, just quiet time after lunch. Just go with the flow and keep putting her down and if she sleeps then thats cool but if not at least it gives you a break. my boy did the exact same thing at that age, he was never a great sleeper (45 min naps), so I let him drop them and a few months later he started to need them again, and slept 1 1/2 to 2 hrs at a time, which he still does every couple of days. My 3yo has always been a big sleeper and still has afternoon sleeps some days. I call it 'rest time' and he can take some books and puzzles into his bed with him and he stays there from 1:30 till 3ish. He quite often falls asleep but if he doesn't he still stays in there quiet (though sometimes he sings)
My 2yo is still going for sleeps then too and always sleeps, though he has started asking for a book. Yesterday when I went in to get him up he was sitting up in bed quietly reading his book (so cute) It is soooo nice to be able to have an hour and a half each day of quiet time. I think a 1yo could still do with a sleep at this time but maybe just allow it to be shorter for a while and see how it goes. -------------

| my 19 month old is resisting day naps big time, but tends to scream rather than play when I put her down. Some days she wil nap in car or buggy though. If she doesn't she goes to bed early, am hoping it will be phase... |

DS went through a week of not having a morning sleep and only sleeping 30-45min in the arvo just recently, it was exhausting for us both, he clearly needed the nap but nothing I did would get him to slee. Then as quicly as it started it stopped again and he's gone back to two naps of 1-1.5hours.
So,could just be a phase? -------------

Thanks ladies, hopefully it is just a phase, she's had a rough time of teething lately. I hope she doesn't drop it due to #2 coming along soon, would be nice to have a decent break, not just 30 minutes  -------------

| Jax - my DD has gone back to napping now, lasted 3 weeks with not settling but this week she has slept for 2 hours day, and is settling quicker each day. I guess they do go thru phases. Fingers crossed your wee girl goes back to it too. |
