Our DD needs new toys. I'd really like something that she could play independently with preferably for a good half hour. She is super clingy at the moment and a bit bored too. The ideas I have had:

-one of those little plastic slides
-clam shell sand pit
-ride on ladybird

Am other bright ideas? She's refusing day naps unless in a stroller and I'm struggling to get anything done, let alone 5 mins for a cuppa.

I would recommend a toy library if you have one, that way you can change toys regularly.

I read somewhere that toddlers have an attention span of 15 minutes which is bang on for my DD I feel your pain, it's so hard to keep them occupied. I've found our sandpit and sand and water table keeps her happy for a while.

I've also split her toys up into boxes and change them often. When a new box comes out she plays happily for a while on her own

Puzzles (like the more jigsaw type ones), crayons, "painting" the fence with water and a brush, playdough (you can make your own to cut costs), household items - my DS loves to "help" me sweep up the floor with the broom, threading cotton reels onto laces....

I used to give dd her own rubber gloves and a damp sponge, she would 'clean' for ages.

Blocks are good too.

I also chuck her in the shower with paint and a brush and let her go for it. Then it just washes away

I love it - I can even get her a spray bottle!

I remember painting in the bath myself. I saw I receipr for soap cryaons so will try that.

The nearest toy library is 45 mins away, its a mission to get there and a mission to get stuff nack.

Does she like dolls? My dd is 20 months and has just got into them (was a real tomboy with an older brother), and plays for ages putting them into a buggy and putting them to bed and feeding them etc. I just got her one with a dummy she can put in and out and she loves it. she spends ages pushing them around in the buggy.

Both mine spend ages with water outside (paint brushes and lots of tipping containers, I use the old baby bath out there too). and also ride ons. She will draw for quite a while too, but does involve some supervision. A tea set and kitchen stuff seems to occupy her too.

Loves dolls - I'm looking at a getting her a baby doll, bed, bath and she has a mini stroller and we are getting a doll highchair from a friend. no 2 is on the way, so we thought it would be good to have a baby for her too.

Is a bit over her tea set, will spend a while watering the garden! I have fantastic herbs this year.
