Alexis is getting christened on Sunday. What do I need to organise I have never been to a christening before. I know I need to get her a white dress. Anything else? Also do you normally make a donation to the church/minister like you do when you get married?

We had DD dedicated in my mother's garden. We know the pastor personally and he said he doesn't like accepting anything for doing it. I guess if you feel like making a donation to the church you can.
I don't really think there is anything else you need unless there is something special you would like done at the Christening. My sister presented a necklace to DD and a few family members wanted to say a few things and then we all went and planted a tree for DD with the pastor blessing it.

I guess it depends on the religion and the parish... We're Catholic and our parish wanted us to have a Baptismal stole and a candle in addition to the white outfit. We also gave a donation to the Parish which I think is one of those unwritten 'rules'.
