How long can lymph nodes stay swollen for?

Lilia had chicken pox at New Years and the lymph node behind one of her ears swelled to look like a golf ball.

Anyway a couple of days ago, I noticed that it is still swollen, however no where near as big as it was. So how long does it take for them to go down? Do they go down??

Didn't want to read and run, honest answer is I don't know, but I think it can be a really long time.

I would get them checked to be safe.

Years ago I got something and got a swollen lump that has never gone away, the Dr said its just turned into a watery/fatty lump now but there is nothing wrong.

Thanks for that.

It doesn't seem to be bothering her. I'll give it a little more time and if it's still there in another week I'll take her to our GP.

I had an enlarged reactive lymph node on my neck for months after I had been sick with some random viral infection (I ended up having a fine needle aspirate done on it - owie, but nothing wrong thank goodness). It did take ages to go away, but in my case, because I kept checking it (i.e. touching the lump), it caused it to hang around longer! Hope it does clear up soon, but make sure that she/you aren't touching it regularly, as that stimulates the lymph node tissue and delays it going away

Thanks for that Blondy! She doesn't seem to realise it's even there so doesn't touch it and I don't want to bring attention to it, so have only gently stroked it a couple of times - will keep away from it now and just keep an eye on it
