Hi. Does anyone have a child in a Kindercare Learning Centre? We have a new one opening up in our suburb and I am considering switching Jackson (he's currently at Early Years, through Kidicorp).

I would be really keen to know of any experiences people have, because moving him is a big decision, and not an easy one.

My boy is quite sensitive and forms strong attachments to carers. He is extremely energetic but returns frequently for a quick cuddle before heading off again. I know this is a crazy question, but would you say Kindercare would be a good place for him? I want to know that it is a nurturing environment, not just from an educational perspective but from a loving, emotional side too.

I actually had Lily enrolled there for as soon as they opened but have since pulled out, we were offered to come and visit other centres (think the next closest one was Kilbirnie?) but due to a change in circumstances we pulled out before I visited.

Umm you can enquire with them and they will send you an info pack literally within 1-2 days of calling! Or visit as many times as you want other centres...

My guess you be to ring them first and see what they have to offer...

Thanks Nic. Yes, I have the pack and they look good on paper - of course! And I am planning on visiting Lower Hutt or Kilbirnie, but nothing beats the old personal experiences from others.

Thats a hard one. Is there any reason you would want to move him form his current daycare? It would really depend on the staff they have at the new place, as the vibe could be quite different from another branch.

Yeah, there's quite a few reasons I want to move him! Some concerns - none serious but niggly none-the-less.

No one at Kindercare?!? Oh well!
Am off to visit the centre next week. Feeling so nervous though as I will have to decide very quickly as there are not many places left. Eek!

We're at Kindercare, but in Auckland. We love it. We took Alex to a centre city one so we would be close by and can visit at lunch times. He is very very happy there. He went in at 1 year old and settled in really quickly (took less than a week to stop crying when we left). He does lots of awesome things there, he loves his carers (waves bye bye to them when we leave and gives them kisses) and he gets to do loads of awesome things that I would have thought he was too young for (painting balloons and the like!).

They have been wonderful with him. Lots of cuddles, and plenty of attention. They are completely okay with parents and siblings of kids coming and going all day long and visiting. They have been totally understanding of all the questions I kept asking prior to him getting there (and afterwards!).   They've done everything we've asked them to as well. He's the first baby in cloth nappies there and they have been great about it.

Anyway, I would definitely recommend the Auckland one! There's no reason from my experience to not check out your new one anyway.

i have a couple of friends at kindercare kilbirnie..
they are happy on the most part..
they provide meals (no meat though) and have a bright clean atmosphere..

i would consider the 'niggles' and evaluate if it is worth the change.. will those niggles follow or you may have 'new niggles'

My advice.. speak to the head teacher and try to work through your little probs..

It doesnt hurt to check out the new centre.. write a list of pros and cons for both centres.. cost.. team... qualifications... meals... location..ERO reports...programme planning... etc

Children are resiliant and will cope with change better than you will think !!

Good Luck with your decision

Thanks guys. :-)

Unfortunately one of the niggles where I am is the Head Teacher, and a few things I have mentioned haven't changed. I also like the programme that KinderCare offer, because it seems like there is not a lot of structured 'education' going on where I am at the moment.

Anyway - am off to check it out next week and the ERO reports look good, so will see how I feel and then make a decision.
