Hi everyone - over the holidays my 7 (well he is in two weeks) was going to bed at 8.30 an hour later than school time and then messing around and constantly coming back into the lounge with excuses etc etc and finally going to sleep about 9.30 -10.00pm and then would wake at about 7am the following morning! Obviously not enough sleep for a 7 year old.
He is back at school and seems quite content but can be quite anxious and loves a routine which he thrives under and if his ducks arent in a row he loses the plot and has a major melt down - which drives me insane as it is usually over trival things ie left his pencil case at school, I explain it is ok but he crys and crys and crys
I have tried all the normal stuff like bribery, lying in bed with him (but i fall asleep and he doesnt haha) yelling at him and trying to talk and understand his train of thought for not going to sleep, etc etc.
Hes a bright boy and i am now seriously considering taking him to the doctor to see if there is anything we can give him as his brain wont stop and then he cant sleep IYKWIM.
I suddenly thought of night nurse as i know this can calm you down etc and I was wondering if anyone else knew of anything homopathetic that i could use!!!
Thanks for you help

LOL sorry but that sounds like my 7 yr old. cant go to sleep at night, cries at the drop of a hat, excuses every night. one night i went to check on him and he was sitting out on the stairs watching the stars - and this was about 10pm! i thought he was asleep! So no remedies from me sorry but wanted to let you know you arent alone.

Snap, mine cries over the littlest things too, must be a boy/7y old thing! I find he goes to sleep easier if theres no distractions (he has dark curtains in his room which helps block the late evening light during daylight savings, most books/toys have been moved from the bedroom, and all lights and doors closed down the bedroom end of the house) because he is SO easily distracted!
We also have a period of about 30-60 mins of 'wind-down' time before bed, he has tea, washes up, then sits in the lounge with us and quietly reads a book until its time for bed, not sure if thats made a difference or not, but it gives his mind time to settle down a bit before going to bed.
Bizzy, LOL @ G watching the stars, how was he this morning after such a late night??

Bizzy lol
I have the same issues & I am making up charts. I am pretty strict about bedtimes as that is my time but am putting them back to bed continually so with the charts being started next week I am hoping things will fall into place.
I am not into to giving them stuff either from the drs or herbal. I am going to change the bedtime routine as they were so used to playing in the holidays so I think they are a bit hyped up & think it is time for me to get back into walking them home from school.
As for the melt downs we have them regularly, & over things left at school which have done my head in several times, sometimes you can not even reason with them over it. I still struggle with melt downs
