So just wondering if anyone has any tips/tricks for getting fluid in a 9 month old. She's bottle fed - but refused all bar 1 bottle since lunchtime yesterday. She normally drinks water well from a sippy cup with straw, but as soon as its in her mouth she spits it out.
Tried icecubes in the mesh feeder, she'll suck for about 20 seconds then throw it. Even tried a wet cloth to suck on.
Its so hot and muggy in auckland, and she's been battling high temps since thursday night. We had about an hour of vomitting last night, but nothing since. Other than the temps, and refusal to drink/eat - she seems happy enough, other than tired. Just want some fluids in her!!!

Give her a play in a bath of clean water, with a small cup and a cloth to suck on? Hope she comes right soon

have you tried an ice block or some watered down juice?
Otherwise I agree with the syringe, when our oldest had rotovirus we had to do that.

Cool, thanks will try it as soon as she wakes up again
Would you put just water in there, or actually formula (to hopefully gain some energy as well as fluid?)

go for water first, see if that stays down, then try formula an hour or two later.
The formula is harder to digest, she may just need water to calm the tummy first.

Would a pump bottle type bottle work? She might have some cause of the novelty value.

I've had the same problem before, it's so stressful when you think they might get dehydrated! I called Plunketline and they suggested (if she's old enough) trying jelly (cos it's got a high water content), iceblocks/ice cubes, the syrine thing, a spoon, sippy cup, drink bottle, a cup/glass, through a straw... For me I found a frozen wet flannel half was the one that did the trick.
Sounds like you've already tried some of these so I hope you find something that works soon!

Luckily she's right back to drinking again, PHEW - a mix of something nasty with all the high fevers, followed by first tooth breaking through meant a LOT of non drinking days.
We ended up being the most successful with frequent tiny bottles (20mls/ lol) and syringing in pedialyte - about 5-10mls an hour if we were lucky.
Although i would so recommend NOT getting the bubblegum flavour, why is it doctors always give that one in the thoughts it will taste good. Plain tasting is so much more normal to our wee ones! LOL
