I have been given some money to buy bedding for my two littlies and I would really like to get them each a decent single bed sized woollen blanket. I have $200 to spend and would love to somehow get two blankets without spending any more than this. If I can't get two for under $200 then I might just get one a blanket and hope to get sheets (at least!) for the other - I'm not really sure what is realistic! Any suggestions on where to look? Or has anyone come across anywhere online that might sell seconds? |

Decent wool blankets are so expensive. I bought a new one for our bed ($120 for a king) but it is so thin and has pilled a lot, so I wouldn't describe it as 'decent'. The two second-hand single blankets I bought off TradeMe for $20-30 each are much thicker and better quality, and they don't smell or anything, you couldn't tell they were second hand except for the retro check pattern. Just a suggestion

| oh that's such a good idea - don't know why I didn't think of it! I look for everything else on there so why not blankets as well. I have found Ezibuy blankets for $99 and another on the NZ Wool blankets site but so far that's it. |

Yeah 2nd hand might be the way to go .. I spent about your entire budget on just one blanket .. but they seem to last forever (I bought both carbioo and little house blankets), love them both. ------------- Mummy to Issy (3) and Elias (18 months) I did it .. 41 kgs gone! | Yeah the new King blanket I bought was from Ezibuy so I wouldn't recommend it - I mean it is ok, but isn't of the quality I think you're after. |

| I have a few on my watchlist now on Trade Me - but I might head off to a couple of the second hand shops around here in the next couple of days too. I could easily buy on Trade Me but it's so hard to judge quality. Thanks guys - I'm excited now. When I thought I might only get to buy one of them a blanket it was feeling a bit depressing but now I know I will definitely be able to get them one each. |

I dont think you will find any from shops now that are as good quality as the older ones.

this is a bit of an interest of mine!
I made these for my boys with various designs and for friends' kids as gifts. http://felt.co.nz/browse/listing/29795/Vintage-Woolen-Cot-Blanket-with-felt-Owl-applique. You definitely can get awesome quality 2nd hand ones from op shops. St Vincent de Pauls and Savemart are good in Auckland. I saw a matching pair at my local SVdP last week but didn't buy as i already have a whole set of drawers full of blankets. I am a bit addicted to them! Sometimes they are about $5! The 2nd hand ones are the best quality, shop ones are thinner, but just check the softness, some of them are quite stiff. They are amazingly warm, we all have one on our bed during winter and if it slips off in the night man you feel it. I love the retro patterns for the kids and you can modern it up with an applique or whatever. They are fine to wash on wool wash and dry flat or over the clotheshorse so it's a good time to buy them. If they smell of mothballs tho it is hard to get that smell out so avoid those ones! ooooo Crafty1 you have really got me thinking now! The Owl blanket is gorgeous. I'm going to head to a few of the second hand places in the next couple of days to see what they have. I'm thinking that may be cheaper than trademe and I do like the idea of having been able to feel them and look at them properly before buying if poss. My wee boy would love a blanket with a train on it so the applique idea is brilliant. If I don't find anything in the next couple of days I might take you up on that offer Crafty1. Not sure about colours now though. I saw a cute blue / brown retro one on TM today, and some lovely pinks with various other colours / patterns so I'm open to options!! |

Farmers sell woollen blankets. They are Australian rather than NZ wool but they are thick and I have brought 3 for my bed and 2 for my DD. They sometimes have them half price if you can wait till the right sale comes along. I think I paid approx $80 per blanket (on half price sale) for the Queen ones and about $50 per blanket (on half price sale) for the single ones. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I got one off trade me, an old fashioned thick one like my nana used to have!
luckliy it was cream, and was awesome. I washed it , hung it on the line and its as good as new! Just make sure you check the persons feedback to ensure they dont sell trash!
