You can but the dose will be adjusted accordingly Nutella - the same as if you are pregnant - and depending on what you are being treated for

Cool thanks Raspberry Jam. I guess that means that I don't just go back on the meds without seeing Dr....

oops, sorry I missed this..If you havent had them for a while you might need to change your dose anyway , but yeah

How do you find these? I was on them but the smell was hideous!! When I was working and pregnant they used to take my breath away counting hundreds of them!!

I was wondering about this too. My specialist always said to me that it was important to keep taking metformiin for lots of reasons, not just when we were ttc. So when went to my gp after ds was born I asked if it was safe to go back on it. Gp said no, which is a shame as I had some issues with over supply and balance when feeding, which I know could possibly be pcos related and I'd hoped metformin might help. I did wonder if my gp just wasn't up with the play though as I've read elsewhere that it was safe.

SER I was on metformin until 12 weeks to reduce the risk of miscarriage and then the HRT advised me to stop taking it - although my specialist (a gyno rather than and ob mind you) had always said NZ was ridiculous when it came to advising women to keep taking it during pregnancy, apparantly there are a couple of big studies in Asia/India that have shown it is safe and beneficial but because there haven't been any large NZ studies very few OBs will advise their patients to keep on it.

Yeah when i was preg with J i stopped taking it at 12 weeks but this time they made me keep taking it in the hope that it would help keep my blood sugars stabilized and reduce the risk of bub having problems when he was born.

Great info, I had just been wondering about going back on metformin. I was put on it as we had trouble getting pregnant coz of pcos, luckily it worked very quickly and we were pregnant within weeks. Now thinking about ttc #2 soonish. I am still bf'ing and no sign of af. Was going to ask my Dr about it.

MrsJmcD, You said about oversupply issues and balance? Is that coz of pcos? Just that at times I had HEAPS of milk but it seemed to be alot of foremilk? Anyone had this?

there are 2 strengths, 850 and 500 mg - so if you were on a high dose and have gone off them - going straight back on them when breastfeeding or pregnant wouldnt be advised

NZ is so far behind in medication - its quite scary

for anyone not wanting to take metformin - or drugs for that matter - see a nutritionist for a strict GI diet - if you havent sone so already - makes a huge diffference

Maisey, I found some info online that said the most common feeding supply issue in women with PCOS was under supply, but that in some women the issue was oversupply - I was in that camp (not so much now that my DS is drinking more and I've figured out ways of managing it). It didn't mention balance but I also had way too much foremilk and I was kinda hoping metformin might help with that too.
