Subject: fixed vs swivel front wheel?

Hi. I have an old style buggy(not sure of brand of the top of my head, but not a common one) which has a fixed front wheel and is very heavy.
I am now finding it extremely heavy to push my toddler in, esp as lots of hills around me, so I am thinking of getting a cheap 3 wheeler off trademe. I will only be using it for walks around the streets as I am not a runner, and i have an umbrella stroller for shopping etc.
I have seen a few but am not sure which would be better, fixed or swivel?
Any thoughts?
I have heard that the MB terrain are very easy to oush despite a fixed wheel, but my current one is fixed and that puts me off a bit
Can anyone help?
Thanks

I LOVED my MB, it was the easiest pram ever to push! I had to sell it when number 2 came along though as number one was only 14 months when number two was born.

Wheels that swivel are MUCH MUCH better!!

I agree swivel ones are so much better! I have a fixed one and it's damn annoying and heavy too!

Plus good thing about swivel ones are they fold down small in the car and fixed one's take up much more room.

Swivel definitely, sometimes my boy locks the wheel and i notice it straightaway cos the damn thing won't steer. Most swivels also have a lock option but tbh i've never used mine on lock.

crafty, same lol! But my wheels lock them selves sometimes and I'll be walking along going what the f is wrong, and then realise the damn wheels are fixed lol

Swivel. I agree with others lol. If mine gets locked on straight i think ive broken the pram its so horrible to use.

We live on a farm and I got a second hand MB terrain with fixed wheel just to use round farm etc, it was great for that, walking on grass, shingle, rough road sides etc. But had it in town one day as our phil'n'ted had a flat tyre and it was a pain, hopeless trying to turn corners all the time. The phil'n'ted with swivel wheel is much better round town.

We have a steelcraft strider 3 and you can flick between swivel and fixed with a wee switch on the handle which is great because i much prefer swivel but hubby prefers fixed....men huh...

Im team swivel as well. So much easier and I definitely notice the difference if we accidently put it on locked.

Swivel wheel here as well, i have the steelcraft strider 3 and its a fantastic pram, i think you can pick up a second hand one pretty cheaply.

Swivel all the way, saves you lifting the pram to make it turn.

swivel too. The times when mine has been fixed by a helpful 3yr old drive me nuts. You think something is wrong, then you realised its been fixed. Unfix it and you are away laughing.

I had P&T & MB double & they all were swivel & I loved it...did not think I could ever use a fixed one but now have a MB terrain & I have no trouble pushing it with the 4yr old up & down our hills...even break into a bit of a run now & then...but if I was to have another baby I would get a swivel one.

yep I would definelty vote for the swivel wheel, we had a MB terrain with the fixed front wheel and it was great on the farm but hopeless in town!!  I much prefered the Phil&Teds with the swivel wheel.  Have fun pram shopping!!

Hmm I always have mine on the swivel bit but one of the mums in my coffee group always has hers fixed.... Then again she's a runner and I'm not! I find it easier to push with it on swivel than fixed, unless the tires aren't completely pumped! Then it's a mission!
