We are having trouble with our broadband...we recently upgraded to a faster plan and since then the internet keeps dropping out all the time. We have had the techs come out to check the lines and apparently nothing wrong.....they suggested that the modem we have is too old and can't handle the fast speeds.....
Soooooo....are there any computer geeks out there who can confirm or deny that this can indeed happen...I don't have the best relationship with my broadband supplier...ie I think they are stooooopid.
We have a d-link302g. I have googled of course but just get really nerd nerd nerd geek city forums which I don't know what they are talking about...I know some IT stuff but seriously not that much!

That is quite an old model, so I guess it could be possible. They are good modems though.
Have you had your line tested for faults by your phone provider? Also would it be possible for you to borrow someones modem to test if it happens with another modem
What plan and what provider are you with? Ill have a look later and see if you need to change any settings

We upgraded our internet as well and about 3 months into the contract we started having connection issues. They kept telling us it was the modem, despite the modem being able to cope with it and only being a few years old. In the end we gave up and bought a new modem, only to continue having connection issues. We also had a dlink, sorry I cant remember the model number though.
So for us, it was a crock! I guess it depends on how old your modem is and what technology it can cope with etc.

We had a similar thing where the connection kept dropping out and our ISP said it was the modem. I went and bought a new one figuring I could just return it anyway if that wasn't the case but it worked first pop.

We had the same thing happen and after many AGONISING phone calls to Manila and trying everything they suggested, we worked out it was the modem. Our modem was an old D-link modem we'd gotten from Telecom when we first ever signed up to broadband (5+ years ago).
As we had upgraded our broadband contract at some point we were entitled to another modem for free. So re you entitled to a new modem too? I see you're in Aus.

Ha, only just able to come online and see what people had to suggest...the net is dropping out every minute at the moment...
We had someone come and check the line and all that, afterwards it seems now to be worse
They have stuck us on a stability profile whatever that is lol, of course I am having trouble even connecting to see if I can google ideas! Arggggh.
Think I might get a new modem to check that out, it is pretty old despite it still working fine on slow internet...I think we are on adsl2+ now.
Doesn't help that there has been soooo much rain here and of course the floods so honestly, couldn't it be something to do with that? Me not know.
It really sucks coz how can I get my ohbaby fix when I can't access the net waaaa.
WestiesGirl, I hope you are not affected by the floods!
