My DS has just turned 5 months, and he has been a great night sleeper for a couple of months now, going from about 10pm - 8am (we tried to give him an earlier bedtime a while ago, but he wouldn't have a bar of it, so 10pm it is)
Anyway, we went away on holiday and the first night he woke up crying in the night. We tried everything to settle him back to sleep, in the end we just had to feed him. He ended up doing this every night for the entire 2 weeks we were away. Now we are home, and the pattern has continued for the last 3 nights. I'm just wondering whether he'll come out of this, or what has caused it? Is it because we were away, or is he just needing more food because of his age? Ah the old 5 month-itis. Happens all the time, their sleep patterns change at 5 months - see the Sleepstore website for info in this. They wake up heaps more and are more aware of their surroundings when they do wake. DD did exactly the same thing.
Many ways to deal with this, you can wait it out and see if he grows out of it or try have around for a sleep learning method that works for you. |

Yep I agree, my babies all did it at 3.5 mos then again at 4.5mos. At 5mos some parents would introduce solids to help out. It'll probably settle down again whether you do that or not, unfortunately it's just a growing bigger thing. -------------  |

My bubba did it too at 5 months and absolutely nothing we could do about it!! he has always been a great sleeper and self settler but he would wake up and sometimes for hours or 3 or 4 times... the only thing i could do is feed him back to sleep.. my best advise is just do what it takes and he will snap out of it.. dont stress over it as it just gets you both worked up!!

Yup normal normal normal  We had wonderful sleeping from about 3-6 months with DD2 and then BING! She woke up and we started having disrupted nights again. It was far easier and much less stressful for both of us for me to give her a quick feed and then both of us would zonk out again - prolonged wakeups were / are usually due to teething or illness.------------- Mama to two earth walkers & two angels. I should add DD2 night weaned a couple of months ago now, and whilst her sleep has definitely been improving in the last three months or so it doesn't mean the nightwakings have stopped altogether - usually though we can just resolve them with a quick drink of water, cuddle and switching her music back on when we pop her back into bed. ------------- Mama to two earth walkers & two angels.
