I need some advice from experienced parents please!

what kind of bedding (quilt, woollen blanket etc) did you use in your cot? We just went to have a look this morning & am more confused than ever. Did you go for 100% cotton & 100% wool? Any recommendations would be great.

any advice would be greatly appreciated to a first time mum, thanks

Where do you live, and which season will baby be born?
No to quilt, not recommended for suffocation reasons.

A NICU nurse taught me cotton wool, cotton wool - so a layer of cotton next to the skin, then wool/merino, then cotton aio, then wool/merino blanket etc etc.

We live in canterbury & bubs is due end of march. What about the merino go go bags is it okay to just use them by itself?

When bubs was first born she was in a merino singlet, cotton aio, cotton sheet and initially cotton/bamboo blanket.
Now she is 11 weeks old and its hot, she's in a cotton singlet and stretchy muslin wrap when she first goes to bed and I add a cotton sheet later in the night.

Jacob was born in August, and he'd sleep in a woolen singlet, a stretch-n-grow with feet, a cotton sheet and a woolen blanket. Some cold nights I put another blanket on him.

Now he sleeps in a short onsie and his cotton wrap, and I usually pop his light cotton sleeping bag on if he wakes up in the middle of the night as it's a bit cooler then.

Sleeping bags all the way! So much easier and once they start wriggling you know they'll still be warm. We use Go Go Bags and Grobags and I recommend both.

We used Grobags once we moved him into a cot (at about 5mths).

This bubs is due in Feb and I am planning on putting her in the basinett with cotton singlet on, muslin swaddle and just a cotton top sheet. If if gets chilly during the night I will pop a cotton blanket on I think.

I had two winter babies.

Ive always used a quilt and its fine, it was tucked in tight and my babies were swaddled or in a safe t sleep.
I used cotton or flannelett sheets and also woolen blankets if needed.

Another Go Go bag fan here...but I only started using them around 2-3mths. They're so easy and can be used from newborn.
Before moving into his bag DS wore a short or long sleeved cotton bodysuit, merino gown, cotton swaddle, had a sheet and/or a merino blanket depending on the temperature.

ETA: Check out the table a little bit down the page here - http://www.merinokids.co.nz/FAQ.html
It details what to wear under the Go Go bag depending on the temperature. Extremely reassuring!

DD started off in a moses basket then moved to a cot at about 4 mths.

In the cot I had a Dr Sprott mattress cover, a woollen blanket over top, a 100% fitted cotton sheet and a cotton flat sheet over top. On the top we had a cotton aircell blanket (they breath well). I only used the blanket if it was cool. We never used a quilt. I personally think a woollen or cotton blanket is safer. Best to avoid polafleece blankets too, as they don't breath well and baby can overheat.

When baby was small I swaddled her in muslin wrap and moved to a bag (gogo or grobag), when she moved to her cot and started rolling. They are definately a good investment, but I wouldn't use one on a NB (although I know people who have)
