Ok so I was in the kitchen when DS who's nearly 18mo came in munching on something hard sounding.  When I fished around in his mouth I ended up pulling out small glass shards!!!!  He has pulled the Christmas tree lights out (I had placed them close to the trunk of the tree) and completely bit one off and proceeded to eat it.  I've given him some milk and he's now gone down for his nap.

Do you think he'll be ok?  Should I take him to the doctors?  I'm worried that perhaps he might have a piece of glass in his gum.  I'll see how his eating is for the rest of the day.

I want to laugh but am also worried about the glass he would have consumed!

Oh dear! I'd probably give the nurse a call at your GP practice and see what they suggest. Otherwise, try plunketline

Imo, Plunketline are a bit useless and you're probably better off calling your local medical center.

Good Luck!

I think depending on what he swallowed will depend on if you have to bring him in or not, but it should pass out the other end though, glass sounds painful!

Hehe. IMO my local medical centre is a bit useless and you're better off calling healthline.

The risk would be if he's eaten a big enough bit to cut his intestines/bowel.

I'd call healthline. Plunketline are more for parenting advise. If it's medical they just trasfer you to HL anyway.

I hope he's ok!!

If they are worried about glass ingestion they can do an xray and it will pick up any trace of glass in your body. Glass shows up on xrays as I recently found out after stepping on some

OMG i'd freak. Hope your little man's ok.
I doubt he'd go to sleep if he had glass in his gums.
I think I'd call healthline.
Let us know how it works out.

Hi ladies - thanks for your concerns.  Luckily he's been fine, you wouldn't even know he'd eaten it.  I think he must have munched up what I couldn't fish out, into very small bits.  He had 3 poo's since eating it and has eaten all his meals, slept through the night and is still a happy chappy, so I think he's fine.

There's defo no more lights on the tree, that's for sure!!
