| Has anyone used the Phil and Ted peanut as a bassinette? We are wondering if this would be an option at first, otherwise the baby will have to be in its own room right from the word go. |

We have a different make of buggy, but do have a similar carrycot attachment thing, and that's what DD slept in for the first 3 months(ish) - nothing wraong with it in my eyes  It also meant rocking her to sleep was way easier than it could have been! Plus, totally portable so at night she'd be in our room, and during the day out in the lounge.
This time we've got a hammock, but will also be moving that room to room as/when we need. -------------

The Peanut is quite narrow, don't think I would have wanted to use it full time as a bassinett as mattress isn't that great - bubs only slept in it when out and about.
We had bubs in her own room, but it is right next door. I was comfortable with that, and I think I slept better as well as wasn't aware of every little noise she made. ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

I'm the same as Red, baby was in her own room right from the start, never used a bassinette, just a cot. I actually used the change mat padded thingie during the day as a mattress and had it on the couch in the lounge so she got used to all sorts of noises while sleeping.

We had a vintage bassinet, the peanut we only used when out and about for about the first 2 months and then it seemed so small.
Being a first time mum I wanted my baby close at first which ensured I got plenty of rest etc. Lily went into her own room in the cot at 3 months as there wasn't any room for it in our room! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

We ended up using our peanut for about 2 months as we had a hammock but DS HATED it.
I put the mattress from the hammock in it to make it more comfortable and he happily slept in there when he wasn't in bed with me. -------------

Have heard that you need to be careful with using bassinets from pushchairs (other than for their intended use) due to the ventilation IYKNIW. Baskets and the traditional bassinets allow air to flow around the baby better but the pushchair ones have more solid bases and sides. with emmett i used the pram bassinet. i did have a proper bassinet but i wanted the bassinet lower down so i could just pick him up when he woke at night. didnt have it in the pram i popped on top of a banana box which was full of books so emmett was less than arms length away. worked perfectly. though he started sleeping through the night very early so he moved to his own room into a cot soon enough. ------------- Mummy to 4 boys Samuel - 18.6.05 Rory - 15.7.06 Mason - 13.06.08 Emmett - 24.01.10 Baby #5 - cooking |

I personally didn't know that you could use it like that, I fugured it was for the pram only and when ever the MW, Plunket, etc talked to us they always told us bassinette or cot. My mw even came to check what we had for baby.
But I agree with the others re the material for them too, and you'd have to think about what blankets you'd put in there (if any) and clothes too so they don't over heat, or get too cold... ------------- http://lilypie.com">

My MW pointed out on her first visit that baby could sleep in a cardboard box or drawer and would be perfectly happy   so she didn't see anything wrong with the pram bassinet...
I say trust your instinct - if you feel it would be too small or hot in the summer weather then don't use it, but as a temporary measure (until you feel ready for baby to go into the cot etc), I think you'd be ok - as long as you feel ok with it. (You would have to make sure that any blankets aren't too constricted around the baby, but if you're going to swaddle you may not need any blankets initially anyway! )-------------

We've got the peanut and use it for her to sleep in overnight when away and sometimes during the day.
We had Emily in our room for the first 2 weeks and moved her into her own room as she was too noisy and I would be on auto pilot and jump up whenever she made a noise! ------------- Here we go again, another baby on it's way!
