So what baby products do you feel are worth paying the extra money for to get the name brand?

I've just been thinking that our latest box of wipes are wiping bugger all, and maybe I should have splurged for Huggies instead of Select.

So what do you buy the more expensive of?

I always buy huggies wipes....a few friends of mine that use cheaper brands smell hideous to me..like old ladies.

Hmmm thats a hard question, prolly nappies, I prefer Huggies if I have to use disposables and itti bittis for cloth nappies.

I agree about Huggieswipes but I just buy loads when they are on special, same with their naps.....also skin care, I would only use the Gaia range and wouldn't touch the Johnson and Johnson stuff..

Wow, I must be the complete opposite, for Lily and I, I personally find the 'named' brands - huggies mainly, the worst! So sh*t.
Wipes and nappies!

My fave disposable nappies are tbh the 'cheap' brands, Homebrand, Select, Pams.

Wipes I prefer Silk. The other ones have too strong a scent and it literally makes me feel ill and get a headache.

Re the Huggies wipes I find they normally rip, don't tear off properly, and I go through quite a few wipes getting poo off.

Oh I must be weird too, I prefer the Select wipes over the Huggies wipes!! Huggies kept ripping off and had to dig into the damn container to get the next one

I have no idea what brand I am referring too. I think they are the ones in the pink pack...yuck is all I can say!

I prefer the Silk wipes over Huggies anyday...not only are they less than half the price, they don't rip and I don't feel like I'm going to stick my fingers through them!!! I use Huggies nappies though...haven't found any of the other to be quite as absorbent.

I find Huggies nappies are the best for boys as they have the extra absorbancy at the front but i only use them at night, during the day its pams naps or cloth.

I also use Huggies but thats coz I like the thick wipes but they do drive me a wee bit crazy when they rip. With my older two I had to buy cheaper everything so its nice to be able to afford the big brand things.

I do use home brand nappy liners tho

I only really use huggies nappies, and I haven't had to buy any at full price yet so have spent about what I would have on the cheaper brands. They're perfect for my boy with the extra protection at the front, I don't have to worry about tummy time leakage, and they last thru the night.
Not a fan of the huggies wipes tho, they rip easily and don't come out of the pack properly. I find the cheaper ones better most of the time... pams are usually fine.

I have made my own terry-toweling cloth wipes... find they are better than bought ones at cleaning everything up! However, if I do use store bought ones I have a stash of flushable ones (green packet with a wee frog on them, sorry dunno the brand) - I bought these while still preggers and they cost a bit more.

As for nappies, I too am a fan of Huggies for my boy if using 'sposies, Ittis when using cloth.

I like Huggies too - I've tried other brands, but Huggies are my favourite. I only use them at nights anyway, so don't get through many.

Cloth nappies I use itti bittis - I have heard that with nappies you get what you pay for, but imagine that it also depends a lot on the shape of the baby. Itti's have been great with Jacob.

Our Mountain Buggy was well worth-while, I reckon. I was SO uncertain about buying it, even though we got a really good deal with a Fielddays special. But I use it every day without fail, and compared to the other prams I've had him in from time to time for some reason or the other, it's just amazing. The deal included a sun and rain cover. I thought the rain cover would be good (and it is - no worries about going out if it looks overcast, it whips on in about three seconds) but didn't think I'd use the sun cover much. I was so wrong - it lives on the pram now.

ETA as far as wipes go, I buy a packet of what's on special. I don't use them much, I use damp clothes most of the time, but they're handy for trips out and when you can't be bothered. I'm not too fussed on brand actually, although at the moment we've got some 'Little Genie' ones, and I can say for sure I won't get them again, the smell knocks you out!

I use homebrand nappies for during the day, but only Huggies for nights. I find my boys are really heavy wetters at night and Huggies are the only brand that will cope!

For wipes I use the silk wipes which I find great. I only use the green packet though which is not scented. The scented ones make me feel sick after a while. I found the huggies wipes gave my boy nappy rash..

I buy huggies wipes and nappies. Every time I buy something else I'm looking forward to getting through the pack and back onto huggies. Am always looking for something cheaper though.

Am loving the different views (and that I am not alone on my views!) - shows how every baby is different though, the 'branded' ones like Huggies don't last over night like the cheaper brands do.

I don't like Huggies, the wipes give T nappy rash and he gets leaks with the nappies, the only nappies that work well for us are Treasures Ultra, never have leaks with them, and wipes we normally get pams because they're the cheapest that dont give him a rash, but the last few weeks we've been using silk as theyve been on special and I love them

We use the silk or orange pack of wipes $1.99 a pack and I only ever use treasures ultra, I found the huggies didn't fit properly It's very interesting reading what everyone thinks.

Good point, the Treasures Giggles gave Lily nappy rash but Ultra didn't, but I found the sizings didn't last long for DD.

I don't like huggies I find they give DD a rash but I quickly went cloth wipes because of this then onto cloth naps.

I also don't like select wipes they are horrible and really made DD's rash bad!

Atm I am using silk wipes I think they are, they were the cheapest and I use wipes to wipe her face and hands when out otherwise I have the flushable wipes for her bum when out as we use cloth 99%of the time.

For nappies I use whatevers on special. Pams, select, whatever only ones I haven't used of the cheaper brand is home brand

For me, i buy the 'named' brand if it a) is worthwhile moneywise in the long run run e.g. pumpkin patch pants - they have extendable waists and i find they normally can be used for 2 seasons, and then they still can be sold and you do ok whereas other pants dont last as well.

b) is something that has been recommended - and works e.g skincare/sunscreen where you know it is good on their sensitive little skin and that you will use again and again

c)just better - for a while there my daughter wet through every single night, she had a 'chance' at staying dry in a huggies or treasures nappy, but no chance at all in other brands. (However we eventually switched to bulky booster plus cloth as it worked better again

But... i find wipes - i tend to like the feel of those pink/blue packs at paknsave (not the REAL cheap ones but theyre still a damn good price)
toys/equipment - often if the purpose is the same, i refuse to spend big bucks on the 'label'

I used to be a complete Huggies snob - would only ever buy their wipes, and pretty much always the nappies. The only variation was when DS would start leaking out of them at night, so I switched to Treasures Ultra - they are longer in the front, so miles better for boys!

When DD came along, I wanted to economise a bit, so now I only buy the Silk wipes (the unscented ones), and I actually prefer them to Huggies. I also have them both in Home Brand nappies during the day, but still in Huggies/TU at night.

I pretty much only buy brand name clothing, predominantly JK or Cotton On. A lot of their clothes come from overseas anyway - so M&S, Gap, Mothercare etc. I don't think I've ever been to T&T in my life. They are both going to daycare full time next year though, so i will probably buy them some daycare outfits from Kmart, T&T or the Warehouse. I find the branded clothing to be much better quality, and doesn't stretch or lose shape. I will buy a few basics from the Warehouse or Farmers though at times.

I've got a P&T buggy which is fantastic, and am very glad we didn't economise on that.

I found the huggies wipes great, but they have all sorts of nasty chemicals in them that DH the chemist says are carcinogenic, (parabens and the like) and I try to avoid those. Use the silks biodegradeable ones as they are free from those.

Only use Huggies nappies as they fit miss skinny mini the best. (which I feel is totally hypocritical given my stand on the wipes chemicials). I tried cloth naps but had huge issues with leaking around the leg. The Baby Cheeks ones were Ok and so I must give them another go.

Luckily I have had most clothes given to me or I buy through Trade me, but I did splash out on Nature Baby Merino PJ.s and they are fantastic for winter as they have feet in them. Not good for wee ones as they buttons in the less but awesome for older babies.

Have been disappointed in my P&T buggy, which handles great but has had to be repaired as the poppers came off, not built for daily use!

Interesting the comment about TnT, a friend of mine who worked there said it's all Farmers, or PP clothes just they were the ones that didn't get picked for the season iygwim.

Re clothes, I buy whatever, I actually really like that Hippo brand at Warehouse, so cheap (like 2 for 10 or 2 for 15, etc) and have found it to be excellent quality.

I do like PP pants/skirts for the extendable waistbands, love that! But because she is growing so fast I normally only buy whats on sale or at the outlets. She does get some 'new season' items, but not her whole wardrobe or we'd go broke!

Re Huggies nappies, they were great for my lil 6-7lb baby because she was so skinny but once she fattened up they didn't fit well at all and still don't!

Such an interesting topic and goes to show that just like our babies, us Mums are just as different as well.

I try to buy cheaply for everything.

However I did get a Mountain Buggy (second hand off Trade Me) and it has been sooooooooooo worth it! So sturdy particularly compared to Phil and Teds.

I was also lent a Baby Bjorn which has been a godsend and would definitely one for no. 2 if I have to give this one back.

I got given a hand me down capsule and I don't like it - will definitely buy a nicer one next time around.

Yet to buy a carseat but figure I'll just get a basic one as I've been told they don't need so much padding etc when they're 9 months +.
