Hi,

I have a big bbq party to go to at the weekend and we are all supposed to bring a shared plate that kids and adults could eat and I'm running blank on something easy to make and take.

Any suggestions - recipes?????????

Any guidelines, like are you meant to take a salad, dessert etc? A fruit platter is nice and easy, or cheerios for the kids, bread/chips and dip, cheese platter.

Desert kebabs - fruit and marshmellows on skewers. They can be grilled or eaten raw.

ditto bowie - that's one of my favs. Cut up strawbs, pineapple etc and stick them on kebabe sticks with marshmellows.

Asparagus rolls, sausage rolls, go retro and do a hedgehog - you know with cheese and pickled onions. Pigs in blankets, little puff pastry savouries made in a muffin tin with bacon, egg and cream cheese, or savoury muffins. So many yummy things!

Roast up a whole bunch of veges; capsicums, eggplant, asparagus etc in olive oil with some rosemary and a bit of garlic (or whatever herbs you want), cook some boil in a bag couscous, throw it a bowl then chuck the veges on top. mmmmmmm my kids love it!

Pesto rice salad

For 4 serves: (you will have to adjust it for larger crowds)

1 1/2 cups of arborio rice (risotto rice)
1 small tub of pesto
3 cups vege stock

Put rice in pot and stir in 1/4 of the pesto, add stock and cook till water absorbed.

Remove from heat and put in a large bowl. Stir in rest of pesto, juice of one lemon, Tbsp of olive oil, grated parmasen cheese (or normal cheese) and salt and pepper.

I don't know how much cheese I normally use, just to taste really.

I like to have this with roasted veges on top.

I always do savoury, the last shared plate I had to take I did quick garlic bread with ham and camembert on it stuck under the grill for 5mins and done!

Otherwise spinach and feta quiche, or parcels
