I bought all the ingredients for lactation cookies last week, except the brewer's yeast.
I found a 500gms bag at New World - for $16! When you only need 2 tablespoons thagt seems a bit of a rip-off
I've tried other supermarkets and even popped into Farro Fresh Foods this weekend while up in AKL.
No such luck!

We've got a Brewers Den in Tauranga, might give them a try, but I'm not going to be able to get there for a few more days with sick kiddies at home.
I have normal Edmonds Active Yeast - could I possibly grind that up and use it?
I understand it's the same thing, just prepared a different way and doesn't taste as nice..

Any ideas?

I got it from Hardies - the health food & supplements place. I think it was $6 for maybe 200g or so? Enough to make multiple batches of it and still have plenty left.

Excellent, thank you
I'll check them out.
Just been doing some reading. It seems the yeast should not be susbstituted, so I'll plug on and keep looking.

My recipe doesn't include brewers yeast! This is the one I've been following, very yummy and I think it's help up my supply (I may be eating TONS of them . . .)

125gr butter (can substitute with oil)
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp golden syrup
2 tbsp milk (or water or fruit juice)
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/4 cup flour
1 cup oats
1/2 cup wheatgerm bran
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla

Any or all of the following:
1 cup sultanas/cranberries/chopped dried apricots
1/2 cup nuts/pumpkin seeds
125gr chocolate chips

(I put in almonds, chopped apricots and chocolate bits)
Melt butter, add all other ingredients and mix well.
Roll into balls, then flatten.
Bake for 10 - 12 minutes at 180 degrees

Can be frozen once cooked.

With the normal recipie, you have brewers yeast and ground linseed (flaxseed) as ingredients. They are very good for boosting your supply as well as the oats. I find that after making them and eating a couple I defintaly get an increase in supply, where as one time when I didnt have the brewers yeast it took way longer to happen!
