My husband just bought me a 2-wk old puppy !!! I'm slightly freaked out because it was a snap decision after I was cuddling the puppy he bought for his family...
Anyway I got the runt of the litter. Any advice is welcome... But most of all I need help to name him! He is a staff-lab cross and sort of a rusty-brown colour. Will post a pic soon... I just have no idea re: names... My cat is called "Hobbes" after the Calvin and Hobbes cartoon. |

You could call him Cal as Calvin is a bit long imo and then you will be carrying the theme through. I take ages to name my animals I have to find the right name. Our cats are Kiera and Danica so not the usual pet names! ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

Tho i name all my animals after muscisians like like. Hense my cat is Bowie, the dogs are Henedrix and Knophler and the horse is Muse. If you like a band or artist you could go crazy 
He's freaking cute, congrats on the new family member

LilNic it will be funny calling a Staffi-Lab mini or Teeny coz they're quite big solid dogs when they're adults!!

hehe I have a dog same colour - Rusty, and a corgi called tag because he likes to tag people and my chihuahua is monkey but I didn't name her. Our cats are all named after our past cats... So Toby the 3rd, Dexter the 2nd... Except Lola (Boy) and Spike (Girl) (were told the opp genders for those 2)

I like human names on pets - the geekier or quirkier the better, such as: Otis Arthur Boris George Harold etc.... |

Nicandtyler.... I also like the name Benson It is my Boxers name.
I had a staffy x shar pei x bullmastiff called Bailey (he was the colour of baileys) and a Staffy x Border Collie named Flynn (he was the same colour as this wee un-named pup). I really like the name Scout for this pup. I have used every pet name under the sun.... used to breed guinea pigs and have had hundreds throughout the years and each one has had a different name!! Trying to think up some of the cool boy names we've used over the years.... -------------

I don't profess to know much about dogs but I've heard when it comes to training them it's best to go with a one syllable name. I think he looks like a Jack :)
But I also like Cal to go with the Calvin & Hobbes theme  -------------

Well I'm not 100% on it but I have come up with Dexter.
I originally came up with Baxter - and I was really happy with that - and then rang the in-laws and they have his brother, and have named him Baxter!!! Wouldn't you know it??!!! So I thought maybe Dexter. But not sure whether two brothers Dexter and Baxter are just silly. Thoughts on Dexter? I have to say I do like Flynn and Scout. But not sure if I like them better than Dexter. He looked like a Baxter to me and the last few days I've been calling him Dexter so it might just be his name by default! |

Dexter is awesome!! Lisa is right, short names are best for training (you can scream Dex!! while he scampers after the cat!..) He's a cute little dude.

Dexter always reminds me of Mark Leishman's old labrador that he had back when that show Tux Wonder Dogs was around!

Scout Scooter and Calvin (because I have Hobbes) I wish I wasn't so indecisive!
I kinda need some feedback about the above names plus Dexter... yea Dexter reminds me of that dog too! |

Seriously tho, I do like the name and think it suits him. It's a bit different from the usual dog names but still a single syllable name so nice and easy for training. I have a friend with a turtle named Scooter lol -------------

| I always associate Scout with Bruce Willis's daughter, not sure if that's a good thing or not! I have a cat called Dex (after the character Ronin Dex played by Jason Mamoa on Stargate Atlantis), he gets called Deckles. For some reason the "nicknames" I give end up longer than the original names. (e.g our cat Dougal gets called Fatty Noodles- she's quite tubby). Apparently dogs only hear the vowel sound in words- another useless bit of info for you! |

I love the name Maverick too. Our vet has a Boxer named Maverick as well That is what I wanted to call our Boxer but DF didn't like it so he named him Benson instead. -------------

Oh gosh there are far too many rules on OB! I guess they'll remove this thread if they have any objection. I didn't pick a name as we are selling him. Will give him to a family friend tomorrow if not sold by then but Rusty wasn't on my shortlist
