Hey,

As usual the xmas shopping has falled to me for DH's nieces and nephews and i'm a bit stuck.

I have 4 to get with about $25 limit on each really

Girls are 10 (going on 20) and 7 both quite girly girls. In the past I have got them clothes/shoes always went down quite well but according to their parents they have far too much of that now.

Boys 6 and 3, the 6 year old is quite bright, not a typical boys boys, very into reading and understanding how things work etc....

Any hints tips gratefully received.

I'm not too sure about the girls, I'll have to think about that but for the boys, what about those kits for eg. Volcano Making, Rocket Making etc. There were some in the Toy World catalogue http://www.toyworld.co.nz/catalogue.html - here and they are only $20

Hmm.. what about a jewellery making kit for the girls?

ETA - the kits for the boys are on page 4

I have bought a 'make it yourself trinket box' thingy for my 7yr old girl half sister. I got it from The Clearance Shed. Not sure she'll be quite old enough for it yet.
I got another girl (6yrs old) a http://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/red/catalog/product/Spirograph-Deluxe?SKU=1244104 - Spirograph from The Warehouse.
I guess it depends if they like doing crafty things, with mums help too. I know I loved my Spirograph as a kid.

Boys love water guns or those Nerf guns. I know DH even wants a Nerf gun.

Those kits are a great idea!! I have seen make a bag ones and even jewellery which would be quite cool for the girls.  My DS is 9 and he is really into gift vouchers and alot of his friends seem to get them for birthday gifts, I guess at their ages it gets harder (and more expensive!) to buy for them.  Good luck with your xmas shopping!

Like all those ideas.

Where do you get the make it yourself kits from, like the jewellry idea one.

I think next year for the older girl it will be vouchers, she will know what she wants more than I do but I really like giving them something to open for now.

There are some jewellery kits on Trademe like this bracelet one - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Crafts/Jewellery-making-beading/Beads/Other/auction-332876578.htm - Kit

Or a Jewellery Box Making Kit - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Toys-models/Kids-arts-crafts/Other/auction-333696841.htm - Here

Otherwise I'm sure places like Toy World or Kmart would have similar things!

I know I've seen lots of different DIY kits for girls at farmers.
Another thought for the older boy is maybe something from Natures Discovery. All sorts of cool stuff there.

I have 10year and 6year old nieces. The 10 year old is big into all the latest pop music and has an ipod so I will probably get her an itunes voucher or CD. They are both girly girls as well and I tend to buy them things like nail polish, head bands and jewellery.

I have a 14 year old nephew....now THAT'S hard!!!

A couple of those tweenage girly mags with something. My daughter loves them and they usually have posters of the latest beiber or taylor lautner craze in them. We don't buy them regularly and a few at christmas are great because after a few months they are gone and not cluttering up the bedroom. Lip gloss and makeup are always good.

Make your own perfume or beauty kits. You can get them for facemasks, bath bombs, scrubs etc.

Lego or techno for the older boy. Lego has some cool sets for under $20.

The boy - if you go somewhere like natures discovery you can get mini robots that they build for about $25-$30.

The girls - for $20 you can get little pots that they can decorate (for pot plants) and you could buy them a small flower to go in it and they can do that and take care of it etc (could be nice...)

Not sure re the 3yo sorry!

There are some chalk mats listed on Felt.co.nz. Kids can draw on them with chalk then rub it off and they roll up nicely so are real portable and easy to post as gifts. Just $22. My nephews and neices are all getting some too :)

My SIL just had the same prob with her nieces around the same age. She got cheap dvds from whitcoulls and did up a pack with popcorn, fancy cups, drinks etc. She was going to get movie vouchers but the dvds were under $10. The jewellery making kits sound fun though

My nephews are 7,3 and 2. I got them a fish bowl set and will get a couple of goldfish closer to christmas day. $35 for the set and im going to buy the cheapest little fish there
