Hi everyone

I'm a newbie. I am 36 years old and have been TTC since May 2009.

DH and I have started the ball rolling to get help. Our own GPs seem a bit clueless, so we have made a private appointment with Fertility Associates next month.

DH has been tested and no problems were found there.

I have to go for Day 2 and 21 tests. But I have some questions -

1. Am I correct that day 2 is the second day of red flow? (i.e. don't count any days of spotting before hand)

2. My Dr has written on the blood test form that I am to be tested for my progesterone level on days 2 and 21 - but from what I have read on the internet day 2 is about testing levels of something else (which is to do with egg supply). Should I mention that at the collection room so the time and test is not wasted?

Thanks in advance

Hiya,

Ask to test LH, FSH and Estradiol as well as progesterone for day 2. You can then use this chart to check out what sort of levels you are looking for:

http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/hormonelevels.html#female - Hormone Levels

Drs are useless! I had to tell mine what to test for as well

Welcome to Ohbaby! Feel free to send me a PM if you have any other questions.

Good luck with your tests.

Just a note about the day 21 progesterone test. It needs to be 7 day post ovulation which is only day 21 for those very 'typical' people who ov on day 14. If you ov earlier or later, you need to adjust the day on which you get it done e.g. day 28 if you ov on day 21 or day 19 if you ov on day 13 and so on.

Thanks ladies, this info is very useful.

LittleRed - Thanks for the link. Also, I am glad to know it is not only our Drs that came across as a bit useless. When my DH saw his doctor, the doctor actually got a book out to refer to - surprising, since it was only a semen analysis

Day 2 tests are to check your ovarian reserve levels, and your progesterone levels will be compared on each of the Day 2 and Day 21 tests.

Doctors are NOT fertility specialists so don't be too hard on your GP's ladies. They can't keep up with all the fertility stuff like a dedicated FS can, they spend their time keeping up with all the other illnesses that the rest of the population keep conjuring up.

Hi, I'm going though the same thing - doing my blood tests this cycle.... Day '21' is on Tuesday...

My Doctor is great - although is not testing for progesterone on day 2.

We are testing progesterone on day 21 along with thyroid.

Testing FSH, LH, Esteriol on day 2. Then we are meeting back with her a week later, to discuss more blood tests (she said basic to start), semen test for DH, plus she will refer me for ultrasound. I am very lucky that she is so great - and I've only been trying 4 months - she is very proactive!!!! Good luck for you!!!!
