So last night my 6mth old DS woke up 4 times instead of his usual once and I suspect the reason is because he's now wriggling around in his cot so much more and kicking the blankets off and he's not used to resettling himself without being tucked in. He's in a sleeping bag so he's not cold.
So I'm wondering what to do. It seems that these may be my options: a) get him used to sleeping without blankets on by perhaps putting him down like this for day sleeps b) re-tucking him during the night every time he wakes up without his blankets on (least ideal option as this could be hundreds of times) c) using a Safe T Sleep Now whilst I think option c is the easiest way to resolve this issue, I kind of swore after introducing the miracle blanket, only to slowly wean off it that I wouldn't introduce any more props. But what do y'all think? |

| I would think the safety sleep was a pretty positive prop as far as they go. And if he stays asleep all good. |

Safe T sleep is brilliant. Without it, DD crawls around her cot and wakes up in the night because one of her feet is out the cot or her head is wedged up the side. She even slept at my MIL's sitting up because she was too stubborn to lie down!!  We've used ours from pretty much the beginning.
My opinion is if it gives everyone a good night's sleep then it can't be a bad thing.  -------------

We went cold turkey with removing the blanket and had no problems.
T is in a sleeping bag too and we just tuck the end of it into the end of the cot, and it stops him wriggling his way up to the top of the cot. |

We're starting to wean off now. Some daysleeps are wrap-free. At night we just put it on really lose, as she has taken to sleeping on her tummy. She can still roll over when it's lose.
That's a good idea about the sleeping bag tucked into the cot. Might have to try that one  -------------

Safety sleep, although DD hated hers and eventually 7.5 months old learned to undo it
I do day sleeps in the sleeping bag with no covers and at night I have the covers on but wrap her (day sleeps are unwrapped) however she will do her night sleeps in the sleeping bag with the covers loosely over her although I find she doesn't wake anymore by moving. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

We had the same problem. DS would wake up during the night and end up in all sorts of positions.
We ended up buying a Babe Ok sleep sheet. It attaches to the mattress and has an insert sleeping bag which you put bubs in. This bit is attached to the sheet which means bubs can't end up down the other end of the cot. DS has been great at night since we introduced this and his day sleeps have been better too. He can still roll over onto his tummy as he likes to sleep on his tummy now. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

We went from miracle wrap to sleeping bag - and while i often go in in the morning and she's round the other way squidged in a corner, she's warm.
On a cooler night i just add a layer to her clothing instead. She definately sleeps well being able to wriggle more ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

We just started having this problem (again) with K, But it seems to be a phase which only lasts a couple of nights before she gets used to being able to move and stops doing it. She did it for 2 nights the first time she figured out how to move, and has done it the last couple of nights coinciding with her quicker more sophisticated movement.
Maybe you could wait and see for a couple of nights rather than going straight out and buying something to strap your baby down :D. We used a Miracle Blanket at first, then once DS grew out of it, we used the Miracle Blanket around his arms whilst in a sleeping bag.
We then stopped cold turkey and it was all okay until he started getting into all sorts of positions around the cot so we introduced the safe t sleep. It has worked a treat and we still use it. I think it makes him feel more 'tucked in' & secure as did the miracle blanket and it also prevents him from moving around. I have started to wean him off it for his day sleeps but will be using it at night for awhile yet I think. ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

My girl is a real wriggler - i put her in bed as low in her cot as I can, and usually get maybe an hours sleep before she's banging her head repeatedly on the top end and crying. She's in a sleeping bag and she hates being restrained so safety sleep etc is out. Just in the last few days I've been placing a few decent soft toys strategically in her cot where she's most likely to bang her head and that seems to help a lot. ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

We bought a safety sleep recently as DS had started rolling onto his tummy and yelling for us to turn him over. He hated the safety sleep and we have ditched it as more trouble than not using it. I think "a" is your best option in the long run as means he's not dependant on anything else. DS loved his wrap and is really struggling not using it so I am kinda glad he didn't take to the safety sleep so we don't have to wean him off that too. ------------- http://alterna-tickers.com">

Just an update, K has gone back to sleeping through and napping nicely, I do think it was just the developmental phase of finally being able to move competently.

I used a saftey sleep with DD1 as well as a swaddle and am doing the same with DD2, as she got older I put her in a sleeping bag with the saftey sleep, once she worked out how to open the saftey sleep I had her in the bag with a bigger than cot sized blanket (or just sheet in summer) that I jammed right under the mattress and tucked in down the sides with towels so there was no way it would slip off... IYGWIM
As she got older we stoped using the bag but still tucked her in really tight, and when we transferred her to a big bed we put the sheets and blankets across the bed (rather than down the right way) so we could still tuck right in... slowly she has gotten used to not being tucked in.. but doing it this way we never had to wean her off anything ------------- http://lilypie.com">

DD's never had a problem with rolling and waking, I often wake to a leg hanging out the side of the cot. I stopped using a sleeping bag pretty quickly as she was standing up in it anyway and would trip over and we only had one so when it was washed not much help. I made sure that the room was warm and with all three of us and a heater she was pretty toasty over winter. Now at 15mths she pulls the blanket up herself which is cute. We just make sure she is covered when we go to bed which is at different times so she gets checked a couple times a night.
In the beginning we did have a cot bumper on as she would wriggle to the top and bump her head and to save that we put the bumper in although I swore I wouldn't use one. Funny ------------- http://www.myfitnesspal.com/weight-loss-ticker">
