Or is anyone else annoyed by the blatant waste of food in the new New World ads? I know it's nit picky, but isn't it a bit insensitive when food prices are higher now than they've been in ages?
Rant over lol.

I don't like the add at all!   It annoys me. I think you've hit the nail on the head, why must they play with food?

um, no, its just an ad

I know our New world donates heaps and heaps of stuff to charity organisiations, food bank, johns kitchen etc and always comes to the party for local groups in need of a sossie to sizzle or stuff.

My 6 year old loves that ad.

I think it's very clever & nope, not put that much thought into it.

I think it's pretty clever and well done - someone's been thinking outside the box.

If you get annoyed at the food wastage on that ad, what about all the other food ads? None of the food actually gets EATEN, you realise? Vogels, the microwave rice, Maccas, BK.... I also think that if your kids are going hungry than there's more of a problem than just what food is being "wasted" on TV, because that minute amount (compared to what is put out on the shelves) is unlikely to impact on the actual price of the food.

Um my friend is in that ad and I am offened by what you have said.

Like minik8e said all of the food ads waste food cos noone ends up eating that food.

It annoys me, but not as much as those terrible countdown ads with the mother and daughter buying deodorant and hair dye. They are sooo bad I have to turn over.

Completely agree with you Kate!!!

I actually think that ad is really well done, what a great idea, it's completely different to anything out there... well done to the ad agency!

After all it's only an ad, it's not like its real or anything.

Funny thing, all the people in the ad are workers for New Worlds around NZ.

OMG that ad is brilliant!!! Lol well done for thinking outside the square New World!!!

For the amount of food wasted in there.... Well I don't think its a concern...

And if your going soo hungry watching it-erm, why are you watching tv if your family is starving to death? Sell your TV! Or go see WINZ they hand out food vouchers

What an amazing ad! Love it!

Yeah it's a lot of food wasted but it's a great ad so meh... Don't think it's insensitive at all! If you find food prices from supermarkets too high then buy in bulk or buy your fruit and veges from markets or better still GROW YOUR OWN!

That is terrible, they should have ME in the ads, I will eat all the maccas and BK .....

LOL Kelly!

there is food wastage all over the place on tv... and really making musical instruments out of food is just one more example of recycling!? i hate to imagine all the food that is wasted on those cooking shows! eeek!!

fats are you sure they are kiwis that countdown family! The girl talking about her Avos certainly sounds Australian!

haha Kelly.... I'll put my hand up too! lol

The new world ad bugs me. I just don't see the point of it. Yea so it's clever but it's just dumb.

The countdown ads are more annoying...... like Hila1 said - the one with the mother and daughter buying hair dye etc. And omg Richard Till's voice drives me mental 'shop smarter new zealand'. I turn over every time one of his ads come on. He really grates mev

I think the add is very creative and well done. It has you talking about it too so obviously its doing exactly what is was made to do. There didn't even seem to much food wastage at all, I probably waste more than that in just a few weeks.

i'm not a fan of that ad either. but I do like the countdown? one where the boy gets sent for a cabbage and nappies and just has this confused look on his face.

i so don't know the ad you guys are talking about lol so will go check out the linky.

All ads are fairly mindless IMO in that they're trying to sell you crap you often don't want or need BUT at least it's nice when some think outside the square and manage to entertain us hehe

lol I love the countdown one with the cabbage too, poor boy had NO idea, but the checkout lady certainly did!

That new world one was brilliant, hadnt seen it before but very well done, and picking such an iconic 'kiwi' song was an awesome touch!

lol... mostly just me then
true that there is a lot of wastage in ads in general, and it is different, and outside the box and got people talking and I guess that's the point! I'm just easily annoyed I suppose!
I kinda like that Countdown one tho - it's reminiscent of the Anchor family ads from wayyyges ago.

I guess if its a topic close to your heart then yeah certain ads will "speak" to you...for example the follow on formula ads make me want to throw something at my tv when they are on because MY opinion is that they prey on Mum's self doubts about their bodies abilites to nourish their babies or whatever, so yeah. Or the salvation army gamblig ones make me feel sick cos my mum is a gambler, so yeah, get where you are coming from, but at the end of the day they are just ads and serve a purpose, I guess!

I like it, I think the countdown ones are funny. But yeah the actress that plays the mum was on Shortland Street, but whos to say she hasn't relocated to Australia?

I think the ad's cool. First time I've seen it though - I hardly ever watch TV these days! All my programmes have gone and DS is monopolising my time at the moment (rascal)...

Oh, I know, I know... they are truely dreadful. Rivalled only by the 'senstative teeth' adds.

I kinda like the countdown family ones. I think they're pretty well done. Although has anyone noticed that the baby is pretty big - and in at least infant nappies since they come in boy/girl options - she's not going to be needing a cabbage at that point!!!!

It doesn't bother me, I think it is a very creative ad. I think if you were in that much trouble that you couldn't feed your children you would be more concerned about the amount of money that gets wasted every day than some food that went into making an ad for tv.

I think its awesome! I would so encourage my kid to try make a guitar out of a pumpkin. Reminds me of potato prints - we all did that at school, right? (where you carve out a pattern on a potato half and dunk it in paint to make a print?) Well, most schools won't do that anymore because its "food wastage". Lame - no one should starve in NZ

Posted By: lizzle
Date Posted: 08 November 2010 at 7:48pm
most schools wouldn't do that cause it is playing with food - in maori culture - not done. same reason many kohangas don't do flour playdough

YES!!! That part totally bugged me!!

As for the musical ad, I thought it was neat that they were making fruit and veges look kinda cool!

The part about the baby being enormous bugged me AND DH too! We have mysky and he rewound to point out the type of nappies!

He didn't know what the cabbage leaves were for though

I don't know what the cabbage leaves are for either

I heard that kids don't do the old stick macaroni on paper and paint it at kindy now either. I'm sure I had Maori children in my kindy and it was never a problem....
