I found http://darnkat.wordpress.com/reverse-applique-tutorial/ - this tutorial on how to make a reverse applique.
It's so easy and fun! Look what I made 
(excuse the scruffy young lady) 
(this one has a matching skirt too but it's in the sleeping young lady's room) I am planning to do the nz map one on a singlet for my sister's birthday. -------------
