DD has had it for 7 months now.Its really becoming gross and I can't get rid of it. She has the flakey stuff on top of her head I've been using oil and eco store shampoo on this and I can't get rid of it. She also has 3 sometime 4 sopts on her head of really angry rashy scab. what about some aqueous cream? Its gentle and might help soften the dry bits so they can wash off better.
With bella's and Cadens I used Vitamin A ointment that the hospital gave me when i had caden and it was FAB, I would put it on leave it for a bit then gently remove it with my finger nail, the vitamin A cream made it so soft it just kinda rolled off. But theirs was just regular cradle cap. Do you think its bugging her, if its sore looking I would just leave it alone, and put some aqeuous on it and see if that helps, I think maybe just keeping it moist will help. And also, dont use any shampoo on her head for a while, just use the aqueous, as you can use it as a shampoo/soap etc! ETA - ive heard that those eco store products irritate alot of babies skin, so id stay away from that stuff maybe. Ive only ever used the soap. ------------- |

She scratches at it. Thats why we've been to the doc's a fair bit. The cream doc did give me is called Micreme H which is a steroid with Hydroquatisine?? and when I put it on, it sofens the scaps and she just rubs them off when she's lying down. But they just grow back. I changed our washing powder to just baking soda to see if its and allergy thing. Yeah but the shampoo could be irritating her scalp so id stop using it for a while and see if that helps 
Yeah micreme is what the Dr gives us for thrush on the kids bums, so that might actually be making it worse, cos its a fungal cream really. It could be eczema...hmm, well I would try the basick aqueous cream first as a shampoo and a cream etc, see if that helps soothe it ------------- |

Okay this might sound odd but it worked 100% for us and my DD had quite bad cradle cap. When she was about 10 months we went on holiday with my sister. Both her kids had cradle cap as babies and she helped me with her tried and true cure.
We lathered oil (in this case what was on hand which was olive oil but you might want to try something else) on her head (she has quite a lot of hair so it was pretty messy) and left it for 10 mins, then got the edge of an eftpos card or something similar and gently started massaging the affected area. It came off really easily (did it in 2 lots). The only problem was her hair was oily for a few days and she had bits of cradle cap through her hair. She has had a little bit of cradle cap come back but it was in an area I didn't use the card. I have been using bio oil on my DS and his cradle cap has cleared up completely and i have only used it 3 times in 1wk! ------------- DD 9 ~ DD 8 ~ DS 7 ~ DS 5 ~ DS 2 ~ DS 14mths ~ DD 3mths |

i have heard that it it is best NOT to scrape or scratch it off, you may damage the skin and cause an infection.
i used to rub oil on my kids heads, baby oil i think but any would do, olive, almond... etc. i would leave it for about ten mins minimum and then just wash it in the bath. it doesnt get rid of all of it but certainly helped. we had this issue to quote the doc one of the worst cases he has seen..we tried everything.. oil made it worse for us.. in the end but 1% hydro cream on it was the only thing that cleared it up..and he still had a bit actually until we found he was allergic to dairy and egg and he started on neocate and now all gone.... ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

Yeah that was what i was thinking to Bizzy, thats why I reckon it best to stop using the shampoo and other creams and stick to aqueous for a while as its very gentle and pure. ------------- |

This is going to sound really hippie (but then you know I am one, so meh  ) but Addie was starting to get some nasty cradle cap on her eyebrows, so I rubbed some breastmilk into them every time I fed her for a day or two and the cradle cap disappeared. Worth a shot maybe?-------------

Is it cradle cap and not psiriaosis (sp)
I have that and it causes my scalp to look like I have dandruff and is awful and itchy I also get ezcema DD had cradle cap and it annoyed me more then her, my DR prescribed micreme for her eyebrows which I used sparingly if at all and suggested the neutrogena shampoo only a tiny bit is needed but one of the ingredients helps get rid of it can't remember what it is. It worked and I used it on her when she was about 4mths old didn't harm her. | I stopped using shampoo - had been using eco store - and lathered her head in healthE fatty cream (can get it in a tub at chemist) before bed. It all lifted off in morning. That was after trying oils that didn't work. DD actually had eczema too - and i used the fatty cream for the eczema - the effect on the cradle cap was an unintended side effect. Needed hydrocortisone for the eczema... |

for Rs cradle cap, i lathered his scalp in bedtime bath oil (just coz thats what i had lol) and waited 5 mins, then combed his hair with a nit comb. all gone. hasnt come back either apart from a few tiny spots that go away with regular oiling (oil and baby massage after each bath)

| Yeah, are they 100% sure its cradle cap? I could only recommend aqueous cream or oil, with nothing else (shampoo etc) used to eliminate that as the problem. Good Luck! |

The thing that worked for us:
Make a paste of baking soda and water, put it on and let it dry, then wash it off. DD was about 8 months old and had quite a bit of hair, so it was a bit messy, and after rinsing her hair I had to comb it cause lots of cradle cap bits got stuck in her hair. But it was all gone, and only recently a little bit has come back, but you can't really see it through her hair so I'm not too bothered about it. |

DD had some a few months back and putcanola oil it comes that comes in a big yellow can this stuff is so foamy. I rub it into her scalp and leave it for about 20-30 mins and wash her hair in the bath with shampoo after repeating this for 3 days it was gone. |

aww it sounds really horrible, especially as its bothering her.
maybe get a second opinion from another doc? it doesnt sound like normal cradle cap |

T had really horrible cradle cap all over his head and then developed eczema which covered his forehead, I tried everything! Aqueous cream, hydrocortisone, bepanthen etc etc, but in the end the only thing that cleared it up was when I stopped using any products on it, it took a couple of weeks but it eventually cleared up, so nothing in the bath and no creams or anything at all. Not sure if that'll work for you and your little one but just a suggestion

Have you tried the Mustela newborn cradle cap shampoo? It's white packaging with blue writing - we picked it up from a local pharmacy for about $20. Definitely worth it! Bethany had really bad cradle cap and finally when she was about 1yr old a friend suggested it. It made a huge diff - reduced it straight away, and after a while it actually disappeared. (Took a while cuz we weren't religious about using it I think.)
It wasn't until Kaitlyn was getting it really badly and I took her to the drs bout that and her eczema that I realised the two were linked. With her, because we got onto it so fast (I recognised the signs since Bethany had had it so bad) she got rid of it really quick. We use aqueous cream to wash her, starting by lathering it on her head/hair before washing her, then leaving it to sit before washing it off her head last thing before getting her out of the bath/shower. We did that for about a week or so before using the Mustela one intermittently as well. Afterward I gently rubbed aqueous cream all over her head and I think I may have put a little hydrocortisone on the worst patches. When I remembered, I'd put more aqueous cream on in the mornings too. (I admit it definitely helped that she only had a little hair!) Anyway, within about three weeks there was no sign of the cradle cap, except for the odd patch of dry skin on her head. Blew me away since it took so long to get rid of Bethany's! I think the big thing the dr said was to make sure it didn't get too dry, thus all the aqueous cream. Oh and I vaguely recall gently scraping over the top of the worst patches of the nasty yellow gunky looking bits with my little finger nail (not enough to 'scratch it off', just enough to coax it off if it was ready), esp over her eyebrows since that's where it was most obvious! Usually after her bath was best cuz it would be softest. I then immediately coated the patches I'd removed with aqueous cream and they began growing back slower each time until they didn't grow back at all. Hope that helps :) Edited to make sense :P And also to say that I'm guessing there may be no 'quick fix' since the problem is ingrained for her like it was for Bethany - hopefully you'll find something like this might ease it and at least reduce the irritation soon though! Let us know how you go.  -------------

PS when you do finally get rid of the cradle cap, don't suddenly stop whatever you it was that works - keep a close eye on how her scalp is looking for a little while at least, and at the slightest sign of dryness etc., get onto it straight away so it doesn't come back. Prevention rather than cure is good once you get to that point, as it's up to you to 'teach' her skin the right way to be!
Also, from what I can gather in talking to those around me, it's not uncommon for cradle cap (in it's simplest form) to last until 3yrs or even older, but all we can do is try, right? :) -------------
