Hi everyone,

My DS is just over 8 months and is well established on solids (3 meals a day).

For the last month or so, I've been trying to introduce him to mashed/slightly lumpier food without any success. Anything thicker than a puree, he gags very badly and it normally results in him vomitting.

The same happens with finger foods - I've tried most of the suggestions that Plunket recommend but all end rather badly as soon as he gets a lump in his mouth.

I've been researching the posts that are currently on here about this, and it sounds like gagging is pretty normal and something they need to get used to...

My concern is that it just doesn't seem to be getting any better/easier for him, despite my perseverence. And the vomitting can't be good for him, bringing up his milk and food from earlier in the day!

NB - he doesnt have any teeth yet so am guessing this may help with chewing??

Would be really grateful for any reassurance, tips, advise, etc.

my advice is just keep him on the easier foods for now. My child was just like yours except he had a tendancy to actually choke and turn blue. i thought if i kept persevering it would get easier but one days its just like a switch and all of a sudden they are fine. i would flag trying to keep up with the guidlines and let him do it in his own time cos he will definitely get there whether you persevere and stress yourself out or not :) i had heaps of ppl push BLW at me which even after week resulting in him still turning blue cos he would choke and couldnt breathe. so just keep him on the stage he is on and try in another month or so
