My daughter is just coming up to a year old and I have been struggling with her eating solids. I have been wondering if I have been giving her too much formula. She has 4 bottles of between 200-250mls. Its not that she doesnt like the food I give her cause sometimes she just flatly refuses to eat. Like this morning she had about 1 tablespoon of wheetbix which would make like a quarter of a wheetbix! Then she had a tablespoon of mince for lunch and a yogurt...

Any suggestions would be appreciated...

The other thing I would like some thoughts on is when to go to cows milk? is formula or cows milk better for them and how much should she be having?

hi, my daughter has just turned one and is on 200 ml before bed and that's all now, she has a half a cup of cows milk for breakfast and water for the rest of the day. i weaned her off the other bottles slowly one at a time and just gave her food when she cried after a few days she had forgotten about it, was quite easy. shes had this routine for about a month and is still happy and healthy
hope this helps.

Hi my DD is about the same age as yours.

She is BF but our day goes a bit like this She does have days where she doesn't eat much though

6.30 up BF
8am breakfast
9am sleep
10.30ish morning tea - if she is asking for milk later I give her more food
12pm lunch
12.30ish BF
1pm sleep
3ish afternoon tea - again give her food if she asks for milk but I do sometimes give in
5.30 dinner
6.15 BF
6.30 bed

I give her lots of fingerfoods and give her mash as well when she starts to slow down on her eating. She gets water wthl all her meals/snacks. I would be weaning her off one of the bottles and see how you go.

by that age i think DS was maybe still having 200ml milk about an hour after bfast, lunch and dinner. but i think we may have dropped bfast milk by then? at 12 months we dropped lunch milk and not long after that we changed to cows milk - 200ml at bed time and that was it. he still has a sippy cup of milk before bed but that is it.

At one year old my DS was having 2 x 200ml sippy cups of cows milk. One cup with breakfast & the other at afternoon tea.

ahh i always feel bad when i read how much my DD is havign compared to other kids - she is normally 3 x 200ml bottles a day but if she is teething it could be 4
She is 17 months old - She has less on weekends than she does at daycare and also drinks alot of water.
I think she drinks more than the average kid as she sees the babies having bottles at DC and is rather determined!
She also eats alot of solids (unless teething)

i have agonised over this quite a bit but it works for us at the moment i guess

i wouldnt worry if she is drinking more than other kids. the only reason we culled his bottles out so early is cos DS2 was due when DS1 was only 12 months old and i didnt want him crying and throwing tantrums when i gave the baby a bottle. he drinks about 1-1.5 litres of water a day too. we just have a drink bottle lying round and he goes and grabs it all the time, esp when i am giving the baby a bottle

Thankyou for all that...I think I will start to wean her off some of her milk and see if that helps. For breakfast this morning all she has had is half a yogurt! It is so hard getting her to eat...

My DD basically won't each much more than a tiny spoonful if spoon fed, unless its custard, however is more than happy to eat quite a bit more of finger food, so you could try that, you just need to be a bit patient as our mealtimes can take an hour!

Good luck!
